Strange digitizing problems - not seen before!

Help please -

I'm trying to digitize standard 24PA footage I shot on my DVX-100B camera, something I've done hundreds of time. I'm using FCP 6.0.3 and use the 'log and capture'>'capture now' function. I've selected advanced pulldown etc in my settings to match the footage I shot, and don't have any problems when I start to digitize, but a few minutes into the footage my camera (which I'm currently using to digitize - bad, I know) pauses the tape and goes back and forth over a couple of frames in slow motion, then pauses for a few seconds, then starts playing normally again. Final Cut stops digitizing when the camera pauses but keeps the 'capture now' window up, then creates a new clip and keeps digitizing when the tapes starts to play normally again. When this happens I lose a few seconds of the footage in the quicktime that's created. It happened a few times over about 30min worth of footage at seemingly random points in the footage, including halfway through scenes.

When I play the tape back on the camera there are no glitches or breaks in the timecode.

I shot 24PA, didn't review the footage as I shot it and have selected Advanced Pulldown Removal in the capture now settings. I'm also digitizing straight onto a Lacie drive, and am using a 2.33 GHz Macbook Pro I've never had any problems with before.

Any advice?

Thanks for that - it solved the pausing/drop-out problem, but...

now the audio drifts! Can I fix this with cinema tools? I conformed the footage to 23.98fps in cinema tools, and it slowed the footage and audio down.

Is there something I don't know? A step I haven't taken?

David.
