strange bulging effect

I am currently working on a project that has many boxes moving in the screen and noticed that I'm getting a bulge type effect around the edges of some boxes. I originally thought it was monitor going bad, but after a closer look, the effect is only happening in certain spots. I can't seem to find a direct cause for this occurrence, nor can I fix the problem.

It seems to only be happening on the right hand side of the screen. I have burned a DVD and I'm still noticing the effect, so it has to be something inside FCP

How far were you zoomed in when you shot the footage?

different lengths in different shots. There seems to be no preference to where it will be effected in a clip.

Did you try playing the video on a different monitor?

Weird. That's totally normal for wide angle footage (barrel distortion), but unusual at telephoto, where lines should curve in, not out. I'm stumped.
