Strange and annoying color shift / loss

Blackout

Veteran
I was called in last minute to do some very fast interviews in a pretty dark club. Threw up some make shift lighting and did the best I could for the time I had.

Threw a tota up reflected off and umbrella and an omni on the back / side. It was a little harsh for my tastes but ok and I was happy with the skin tones and color.

Shot 720 60p avchd.

Slowly, the color seems to lose itself and desaturate and the picture looks a little darker. Everything was on manual, creative movie mode, smooth, avchd, 800 iso, manual white balance set on a white background banner.

The color slowly comes in and out, it almost looks as if someone was blocking a light or some clouds moved in..... but again, no one blocked the light, and i was shooting indoors. It REALLY upset me and happened on a whole slew of clips and I can't for the life of me understand why. Was shooting on the kit lens, manual focus, fully wide... I don't remember the exact aperture but it was manual as well and not touched, as well as 60 shutter.

Color desaturates and gets weird, and then slowly creeps back, then away again... what the hell?

I am uploading a clip now of it.

What was the natural lighting like in the club? Any weird kind of lights that could contaminate your lighting? I shot a stage lit by some kind of LED lights once and got all kinds of weirdness. Also sounds like what Auto White Balance can do when it gets confused by non-continuous light sources like crappy fluorescents.

I am positive I was in manual white balance as I set it and checked it several times and white balanced on the white in the background strip behind the two speakers:

At about :55 is the CORRECT color as it should be then at around 1:27 what the hell? color just fades away and de saturates and lighting seems to drop a bit too.

Then it slowly comes back. It's a slow gradual thing too which I thought i was seeing there in the lcd flip out but checked all my settings over several times and everything was manual so I am lost as to what is going on.

I'm on an el cheapo steadicam thingy but I didn't touch the lens, focus, WB, or anything after it was set. I set focus for the main CU position I was going to be it and kept lens fully wide. This is not the best take I got better framing and moves in other shots but this one shows the color change best.

There is some ugly orange Christmas type light on the wall but it was solid not changing or going on or off...

This is really throwing me.

Also.. vertical streak line issue was fairly bad... you can see almost a light transparent 'grid' over everything at 800 iso... anyone else having this issue?

This is with the 'c' hack which has been operating flawlessly for me, even in 720 60p which is what this format was aimed for... I put it down to 30p to save space.

The audio, btw is synced from a zoom h4n with a modified preamp to give it a hotter / cleaner signal, similar to what the oade brothers mods are on some of the higher end gear.

I was pretty impressed as the mic is simply a shure beta 58 which normally barely gets a level in the h4n without being turned up to 100. The original audio on the gh1 is completely unusable and you can't even hear them talking at all from the music pumping from the club.

So upset that the footage color went all strange o.... The client doesn't see it.... I'm not gonna say anything, but I see it drastically.

Sounds similar but not the same as the blue shift issue...I just use Normal picture profile to avoid it.

God dammit i think you are right.... I had i-exposure on high from an outdoor shoot a few days ago. I could have sworn for the life of me I turned it off when I went to do this shoot but I guess I didn't.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr *** random cursing ***

It's in one of the tool menus... I can't think of which one right now because my battery is out of the cam and charging but it says iexposure.. then you can choose off low med high.

For some scenes in high contrast outside shots it does some marvelous things to bring the dark areas up and exposed into the frame when you have a locked down shot... it's great for that. I wouldn't use it on moving shots or inside... as you can see what weirdness happened here.

If you have never switched it on, it is most likely not on. Default is off.
