Straight forward 35mm decision...

I am trying to chose between the Elite, multiple lenses and a Zacuto set up or the Ultimate, a single lens, and standard rod system.

now With the release of the Blade I am really torn...

Do I go with the Letus35 Elite, the Ultimate (as stated above), or The SG Blade?

Please elaborate on your reasoning.

Your responses are greatly appreciated!

All great adapters.

Letus 35 elite and the blade come close. The letus loses slightly less light with a toolless backfocus adjustment that is very easy to use.

the SG Blade is slightly cheaper than a new Elite, loses a touch more light, but has spinning GG.

Sharpness wise is impossible to tell until the Blade is out.

the other adapters have great specs on paper. right-side-up image, low light loss, perfect edgetoedge etc... but the g35 has the most diffused GG on the market today. making the image it renders just plain gorgeous!!! of course it has some draw backs. but it's all about the image man!

the easiest adapter to work with would either be the SGblade with the rotorazer 1 option. or the letus ultimate. they both have basically identical specs and operation. but to my eyes the GG isn't diffused enough on both.

the letus elite image will look identical to the blade w/ rr1 and the Ultimate but it has limitations. you can't stop down on your taking lens past f4-5.6 with out risking the GG showing up.

the SGblade's rotorazer 2 is more diffused than the rr1/ultimate/elite, so it will render a more filmic image!!, but you get the same operating limitations as the elite.. ie. not being able to stop down past f4. and it has 0.5 stops more light loss than the RR1/ultimate/elite.

the G35 has the same Fstop limitation and the image is upside down and it has the most ligtloss BUT its image rendition is beautiful!!!

the SGblade with both rotorazor options would be the most versatile option. and it'd be better in my mind than owning either of the letus models. but that G35 does look mighty nice :D

BTW i own an SGpro which is basically the same as the SGblade with rr2. the G35 wasn't out yet when i bought my adapter :)

the g35 footage that I've seen seems grainy and dark, also, since you can't stop down much without grain, you won't be able to get those nicely rendered aperture shaped specular hilights. The footage is still awesome though.

If you don't go spinning I'd go with the brevis+cfxl imaging element.. great bokeh with only .75 stops of light loss.

Right now though, I'd go for the blade because it has 2 swapabble spinning elements and I really do like the bokeh of the sgpro/rotorazer 2 the best out of all.

edit: hmmm, actually I just rewatched some g35 footage and shiz looks baddass.. wat to do wat to do..

the G35 is built well. Bokeh is unmatched, but static grain is an issue.

I think the Blade with the glass GG is a great mid point between the lightloss, filmlook, and sharpness battles. When i get the second Blade, (My first one was sent back for an upgrade) i will write up a big extravaganza of comparisons. I will test out a SGpro, Letus EX, Blade, try and get a brevis, and if i can find a G35 i'll throw that in there too...

I doubt that... what he said is just unclear... and it had my name in it.... so i wanna know what that ment.

Using 35mm adapters for some time now, I personally like the option of being able to use interchangeable screens; each with its own individual characteristics and limitations. Much like being able to use different lenses, lights, microphones, etc. Combining control with knowledge allows you to shape and paint your artistic visions at will...

Sivart, TimurCivan has been on this board for a LONG time and a valued contributor. You definitely should provide him with some clarification on what you meant by your post, especially your first post on this board...

I'll give an announcement very, very soon! Really though, sorry to single you out Timur. I have been researching adapters and never have I come across such a ridiculous forum. I think much of it is caused by manufacturer competition within the board. New technology is exciting but empty promises are annoying, rude, and i can't tolerate people wasting my time. I don't care what you plan to show, keep it tight and just show it when you have it. With that said, I do appreciate helpful information but dislike sifting through BS.

Um, what empty promises? Most of the adapters under discussion are available NOW, and have been for the past several years. Their weaknesses and strength have been discussed extensively.

And what a great way to introduce yourself to it.

I suspect there will be an "announcement" about another adapter - this time from Sivart. Unusual marketing plan, IMO.

No products coming from me and you're right, nobody is making "promises" .
