FS7: Storm

Another short.. Some crazy images to come on this one.

DR holds the windows.. less happy with a rented kino.. source too small.

Does the FS7 suffer from the highlight aliasing that the FS100 and FS700 were plagued with at all? A lot of the issue was due to sharpening setting but you couldn't completely defeat the aliasing on either cam.

Also seeing Sam M-M's studio shoot I wondered if the FS7 was completely free from the Sony blue light issue where highly saturated blue lights break up badly? It seems to be a Sony "thing" and wondered if they'd actually fixed it on this cam?

Cheers

Certainly some purple fringing.. see hair also I did yacht masts and wires against sky which was not too good.

Blue LED.. difficult to know the difference beween some stuff.

Simply I shot a concert as was suprised to be at maybe F8 - so got few problems. but the reds were dark.

Id give both of these issues 5/10 for managability..

I've seen the blue light break up loads on broadcast TV particularly with concert footage but I've never encountered the problem so I've never done any testing to see if it could be dialled out in the camera. My gut feeling it's to do with over enthusiastic slope setting that posterises the blue channel, if any one actually knows the answer would love to know.

TBH, the camera produces such a wonderful image for the money my nitpicking should be considered churlish.

Thanks

This is pretty horrid.

Canon DSLR at the side, FS7 on the long from the front and FS100 wide at the front.

This whole thing was basically horrid LEDs - actually the red on on the sax player was most problematic. I think we had the cams at 8000k or something!

This is a shot that will pass the viewer by in an instant. Shot in bright midday July sun. Had to build a black box over both the girl and exclude all light from the INT then light them both, practical tungsten and dedo with blue..

This shot I delogged with 709 - not LC709, going for a slightly more TV look than my normal super depressing desat drama look..

50 Mbs with the FS7 is like putting a beautiful piece of marbled sirloin through a mincer.

The 50 Mbs spec was always the minimum spec for broadcast to stop cheapskate producers using HDV, I can't understand why this was shot at 50 Mbs in 2015, maybe the Beeb are short on disc space...

Yep - basically they out source ingest to a post house (sounds like money for old rope) and the contract is for 50mbs or suchlike.

The whole thing was a bit baffling. Don't get me going in public or I could compromise my position.

Working on my new reel - still private .. ish

The first section is basically FS7.

I thought I would make some comments on colour..

The look I have gone for is not 'cine' it is full sat corporate (as is the 16.9 presentation)

Most is Slog3 Custom - interstingly easy to pull up saturation for the trade show stuff and pull out horrid casts.

Trains was HG Broll by Doug - the interviews and train pan are fine - simply low DR scenes - yep I tweaked the colour by 10%.
Where the HG failed was shooting from the train into those yellow fields!

Clearly the 50mbs has 1/4 of the gradability of 100mbs Slog as I found out when turning the wheels further!

The last shot in the first section has a superb roll to the sun.

The second section is old stuff - most problematic for colour was the FS700 diving shots.
