storing tapes near speakers

I live in a tiny 1-bedroom apt with my wife. Recently, I had my DV tapes(already recorded on) in a cabinet about 2 feet(if that) from a big bass cabinet(used to play in bands).
I'd been really good about keeping the DV tapes away from it but recently forgot.

What is the minimum distance DV tapes should be from speakers due to the magentic fields?

In many instances, it's really hard to find a place to store stuff away from things like speakers. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Well, if your speakers are shielded you shouldn't worry too much. I would say you're pretty OK if you keep them 2-3 feet away. I would avoid actually storing them ON the speakers. I just got a tape rack from EVS and I keep it on a shelf across the room. You could just as easily mount it on the wall though, might be a good investment for you, they are like 20 bucks I think.
