Storing equipment

I´ve been searching a bit and I couldn´t find any nice article about storing video & photographic equipment at home.

I´m sure I´m not the only one which collection of lenses and cameras has grown to the point where dust, order and safety are a concern.
I´ve recently bought an Ikea bookshelf that I have customized to try to keep the equipment under control but I´d love to see what other people are doing.

I´m sure a lot of people will have nice tips and we can all learn from each other. I´ll try to post pictures of my camera storage unit tomorrow.

naaah I have insurance

I'd rather they didn't make away with my stuff than wait for an insurance check to show up.

Then again, the only really expensive thing I ahve is the camera, which I cleverly hide beneath a pile of dirty laundry. They'll never think of looking there. :)

Ok, so this is the best compromise that I could find between cost/performance.
I like that the whole structure is very solid, and since it was bought at Ikea, I could choose where to have doors and where to put drawers. I needed to keep dust away from the cameras, so an open shelf wouldn´t work for me.

It´s not the prettiest piece of furniture in the world but it does the job.

Warning: I don´t have this shelf at home but in secret location deep underground. The gear is not worth that much anyway. ;D

I use heavy, industrial shelves. I would never trust Ikea shelves to my stuff. I just don't think they would stand up to the abuse they would take.

Those Ikea shelves are actually pretty solid. They are not like the bookshelves they make. After a while the laminate here and there might chip and so on but only if you treat them rough.

I treat everything rough. My father used to say I could screw up an anvil with a rubber mallet. :-0

Mac, I like the combo of drawers and cabinets, I'm always fighting dust, too.

Do you have the model # or link? Thanks for the shots!

Just keep Paul away from your shelves...

Right, if you are storing your equipment in cases it´s a different story. I prefer not to store it in cases. It´s not handy.
