Hi,
I need advice on a good external hard drive that is both large in capacity (500GD/1TB) and can be used for storage of raw files , and is also robust enough to be transported etc... A reasonable price would also be favored!

thanks!

LaCie = death

I'd just pick up an internal 3.5" disk and throw it in a decent firewire enclosure, then you're good to go.

I am having a more difficult time finding firewire enclosures. I actually have to switch drives out of the ones I have.

It's also important to note that the name on the outside is not always the brand of drive. I had to open up one of my Maxtors when the enclosure failed and the drive inside was a Seagate.

There is a sticky in the Hardware thread about hard drives.

I have seen lots of people with the lacie orange rugged drives, and it seems to be the best lacie drive, if you had to name one.

As for the Gtech, I would recommend the Graid3 over the Graid2.

Check out macmall.
