Storage and file name questions

I'm a big fan of what I've read and what I've seen of the HVX. For the price, this camera is capabable of a tremendous amount. I do have some questions that are concerning me regarding taking a step in this direction.

A friend of mine rented the HVX recently to test it out. Everything that is advertised about the camera is truly amazing, but the one thing he had a hard time with was storage limit and file names.

According to him, the files were in no particular order and seemed to be named randomly. In addition, it took just as long to transfer the stored files as it would have to capture an entire tape straight through. Finally, the storage limit with two high capacity p2 cards was somewhere around 30 - 40 mins tops at the highest resolution.

So, my questions are:

X1: Were there any external storage solutions that would attach to the camera (I.E. Firestore)X [edit] I found my answer: http://www.focusinfo.com/solutions/catalog.asp?id=150

2: Has anyone run across an app that reads metadata in the files so they can be renamed or stored in some sort of intellegent manner?

Update:

I just found out from the same co-worker that rented the HVX that when you plugin the p2 reader the drive doesn't show up as a single drive. It shows up as multiple drives. Apparently the HVX partitions as it goes. He said around 14 drives showed up when he got everything plugged in and mapped.

If you're using a Macintosh, I suggest looking into HD Log. You can use this tool for viewing, logging, and managing media on P2 cards or copies of P2 media on your hard drive. I started using HD Log as a P2 Media Manager after getting back from NAB and currently using it to view clips in the field on a laptop, make selects, add notes, give each clip a meaningful name, and create log files prior to ingest into Final Cut Pro. The currently version of Final Cut Pro does not read much of the metadata when you import from P2. With HD Log you can work with and preserve this metadata and export an XML log that will map selected metadata fields into Final Cut Pro's browser columns. One important tip: when you copy P2 cards to your hard drive, create a folder for each card image and make sure you copy both the entire cotents of the "CONTENTS" folder as well as the "LASTCLIP.TXT" file. These folders are the same as precious master tapes on the shelf, so back them up and treat them accordingly.
