Stop the rubber focus ring accidentally moving!

I'm looking for a way to stop the focus ring from moving slightly and causing my camera to go out of focus. Happens in extreme 'run and gun' conditions, especially when I'm propping the little camera up on a bean bag or hanging it out of the window of a fast moving vehicle during tornado chasing. Very annoying as you've got a shot that may last 20 seconds or less and it's impossible to know that the little bugger is off focus. I find that if I set it on 94 it is the sharpest for shots far off / infinity. (I need the camera to be on manual focus because sometimes I'm shooting through a car window)

Some type of friction device that attaches to the camera body and touches the rubber ring some how? Wrapping rails and follow focus gear around the camera is not practical for the limited space available in the back of a truck.

I've never tried this, but it might work... Try the blue painter's tape found at hardware and paint stores. The painter's tape sticks, BUT does NOT leave a gummy crud behind it you remove it in 24 hours or less.

A thickish rubber band off a bunch of Broccoli appears to add a fair amount of friction to the rubber focus / zoom ring. Change the friction by seating part of the rubber band just on the camera body not touching the ring and body. Sure the guys who are out with Discovery Channel / other networks with think I'm a real professional :(
