stop motion animation

The HVX isn't exactly what you want to be using for this. If you can keep up a pace, you could use the timed shutter, but there are better options.

Most of the projects I'm seeing done lately as stop motion are shot on DSLRs.

I don't know if you can even do this on the HVX (but solid state might make it possible) but if you can, animate every two frames. Every frame is overkill.

DSLR = digital SLR (single-lens reflex) camera. The problem using DSLR is that at the end you have to put all the individual shots together in post, whereas if you use the HVX for it, the camera adds each frame to a single clip so there's no post.

Now, you may want to edit certain frames of the HVX clip, but (imho) that's likely still much less work (assuming there are only a few frames that need editing) than combining a bunch of stills in an NLE.

I agree. The very first one I did using every frame was WAY too much overkill. And it ended up that the clip went much faster than I wanted it to.

Most NLEs have an import image sequence option. As long as the camera numbers your frames consecutively, you should be able to work with them with only one extra step of work.

Interesting. I'll have to check that out. :)
