Stop Frame Animation

As far as equipment goes I would recommend using a DSLR camera with a remote shutter control, the remote is very important so you don't move your camera when taking your image.

A DSLR will get you a much higher resolution then an HD video camera and it cost a fraction of the price. There are alot of programs out there to import your images to for your animation but off the top of my head I don't remember any of the names.

Yeah something like that would be perfect. Tim Burton used a Canon 1D to film Corpse Bride. I would not bother with shooting at full resolution because it would be extreme overkill.

If I am not mistaken to get full frame 1080 its about 2.1MP and 720 is about .9MP If someone knows otherwise feel free to correct me on this.

hey are you on a mac or a pc?

on a mac, theres is a stop motion program made by boinx called iStopMotion.

I just got one and I haven't tried it out but with that program I'm pretty sure you can do something with your HVX200

That was awesome. I think I'm going to bring out my DVX and try something really quick.

By the way, William, the episode was awesome, mad props

For iStopMotion, I believe you have your camera hooked up to your computer. I have yet to mess around w/ the program but the tutorials and the description of the program look great

I would do exactly what Matt Rodwell suggested. Stop motion animation can be achieved with a relatively inexpensive digital camera (it doesn't even have to be a SLR) and very expensive tripod/camera moving setup. Even a cheap digital camera is going to give you better image quality than a video camera. And much larger frame sizes. that's a no brainer.

As for software, even something modest light Vegas LE or whatever it is called would work fine. Any software that allows you to import image sequences will do the job. And, buy an older version of photoshop, learn up on batch processing, and then you are really smokin.

Well, you've got an HVX man! You can do it only with your camera. Read the manual. The HVX can record still frames or as many frames or seconds as you want and at the end it sticks them together into a video clip.

You adjust your things you want to move and then just push record on your remote control to take the frames.

I played around with istopmotion 2 and that's pretty simple but it only uses the camera as an eye and nothing is recorded to tape. If I wanted to do this in HD, Id have to record directly to the card and I couldn't use Istop motion??
