I know this is a marketplace, however, it seems like the prime spot to post this. Please spread the word, there is a STOLEN Mole Richardson 5 Light Pro kit somewhere in Utah (hopefully still in Utah). It's my kit, it was stolen from my car last night in Salt Lake City in a smash and run break in. Below is a photo of what it looks like. This kit is not common in the wild, so if you see it, it's probably mine! Please call 801 638 2882 if you see anything like this. A police report has been filed, rental houses notified. I'm a man on a mission here.

Not the Moles!

s*%t, hope you get them back, Chris.

Thanks for the Support Matt! I just found out from a person across the street that at about 3 am a team of people went after it. Sounds like they were junkies... 100+ pound light kits are not easy to steal. With that said, I think my best bet is them getting busted and the police doing a sweep for stolen property. Given the way harder than it needed to be method of stealing it, I assme these are dim people, so their ability to resell specialized equipment probably isn't too hot. I've also filed a police reoport, pawn shop sales are theotretically no longer possible since in Utah, all items are reported to the police to see if they are stolen.

We had a camera stolen last Fall, took an extra month for the pawn shop to report it to the police. Ended up only being out about $800 worth of parts that may or may not still be at the police station. The police said flat out that they wouldn't put time into that crime, if it showed up at a pawn shop, and the pawn shop does what they are supposed to do would be the only way to recover it. Got a little lucky with things.

Good to know... I plan to looke around at the less reputable looking pawn shops.

Hmm. If it's tweakers then you might even want to call over to the local scrapyard/metal recyclers. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold it for the scrap metal value just to get two bucks for instant gratification. Let the scrapyard know that there's a reward or you'll pay them for their trouble if it comes in.

Stories like this make me wanna stash a tracker in the pelican foam.

That's not a bad idea at all. We've joked about this at work, but the cost is still a bit too high. If you know of cheap transmitters that actually work, please post them. Typically the hardware is affordable, the monthly service fees are the killer. Might be cheaper to get a bunch of pay as you go cell phones, and install an app that lets you track them from a computer. Then you just need a damn big battery.

Maybe there is still a use for old phones after all???

So sorry this happened to you Chris. It just burns me up when crap like this goes down. I lost an F35, Cooke lenses, Weaver Steadman 3 axis, Bartech follow focus, ARRI MB20 II, and other assorted gear to ass-swipes.

I'll keep an eye open on my end here.

All the best!

Dave

CHEAP TRACKERS! :

But they rely on a network of other users for wide-area location.

[There's another one that does wide-area.....let my try to find that one too...]

I hope all of you had/have insurance. I've only lost one $13,000 Sony camera in Miami years ago. Was setting up a shot outside and when I turned my back to point out the shot, a pro robber took it. They are quick down there. Insurance paid me right away. Even got the "A" upgraded model. Insurance is cheap.

Start scouting craigs list and local pawn shops in the area.

Of course there is the old standby of etching your driver's license number onto your gear. An honest person looking at an item with a number might be prompted to contact police. Or not...
