Stolen DVX100A $500 reward

Pay-Pal is E-Bay and they do not care about you being ripped off. I've been trying to get at retaliatory feedback off my history for ever. Even though the guy is not a member anymore they can do this to me. Good Luck!

All I can say at this point is this whole thing blows @ss. Pawel is a real guy in PA who's beed hacked and the guy also hacked into his Discover card account and he's down $1500 right now. Well I now have a new 100B since yesterday for the Avid Liquid conference tomorrow in Laguna Hills CA. Still the total damage for me is, well, 7K for a dvx haha.... heh... ouch... grrr.

Yes lesson learned and will see what I can do to try and report this to someone else local here.

So if anyone out there runs across my camcorder check out the SN
Panasonic DVX100A serial number H5TD00621

Spread the word for me and if i recover the camera whoever helps get it to me gets $500 clams. Yessir.

Thanks all and keep it coming.

That blows! sorry to hear about that. Just curious how did you come into contact with the scamer in the first place?

I would keep an eye on ebay and craigslist for your stolen goods...

try to file a claim with paypal. the circumstances are a little different, but i was able to get a refund from them after getting ripped off by a deadbeat seller.

Sorry to hear about your loss my man.... That sucks and angers me!

I found a buyer by using craigslist when I was selling my Mackie 32x8 mixing board. The buyer wanted to use paypal but I refused and demanded to meet in person with cash in hand. He finally accepted and when we met he was a total a$$hole. Went WAY over board with trying to get it cheaper and inspecting it. Finally come payment time, he hands me a check! LOL..... I told him that he wasted my time and to fuk off. He called me a month later and said ok, cask for full price. We meet again, but he was $60 shy.... lol, what an a$$. I told him that if he didn't go to the ATM right now that I was going to kick his ass for making me lug this heavy ass board around twice and wasting my time again. We argued for a minute and he was pissed as he went to get the mullah! hehehe

This probably doesn't help much, but doing a reverse phone search online I got the following info:

The phone number "(760) 912-6106" is a Victorville, CA based phone number and the registered carrier is T-mobile Usa, Inc

The phone number "(714) 485-5771" is a Yorbalinda, CA based phone number and the registered carrier is Time Warner Communications Axs Of California.

Paypal can't take the money out of your bank account--out of your PayPal account only.
yes they can-and have. Read the user agreement dated November 4 2005 under part 2 section 2 under the withdrawals policy. If you dont have funds in your paypal account to cover what you "owe" paypal, they can garnish your credit card or bank account to recover thier fees. And unfortunately its legal.

I sold a camera on ebay, and shipped it to the address that paypal provided. Paypal came back and stated that the users ID was stolen and they were debiting my papal account. Why do they accept funds from non-verified accounts, and then turn around and tell you not to ship to them because their non verified.

well, I had already transfered the funds back to my bank. When I got wind of this, I closed my bank account. When Paypal tried to get the funds from my bank, and couldn't, they sent me a letter with their intentions to sue.

I called their bluff and haven't heard back from them (knock on wood). They suck, bigtime suck.

Yeah one is a cell and one looks to be unlisted.

Sorry!

I guess its all in who you deal with. Sorry you had a bad experience. I never have and will continue to use them.

Even so with a police report they (law enforcement) should be able to get a warrant for the unlisted one and even to check the records on the cell. As the cell is T-moble I assume they either pay by cc or they had to provide drivers license to get the contract.

Yeah I know. I meant HE couldn't do anything with it...like get an address...

Final follow up on my email issue presented on the first page. I forwarded the email from the bogus seller to spoof@paypal.com and Paypal contacted me a day later saying the email did not come from them and they were investigating. Luckily I did not respond to the bogus email so I think I am still an unknown to the scammer. I thought I would give you this follow up so you would know who to contact should it happen to anyone on the forum. I am considering opening a tiny checking account for ebay only. That way if I am spammed I am only out a tiny bit. Has anyone else taken that approach?

Sure did. I only use the account for ebay and online payments ONLY and I only have money in the account when I need to make a payment. Works great for me.

The real trick is not finding the guy - because the authorities probably can if they have enough info. All law enforcement in the fraud area (both U.S. and Canada) is stretched beyond their means. So you need to get their attention and get them interested.

The best way to to this is to give them a package of all the information you have and all the due diligence you have done (i.e. do as much of their work for them as you can). The fact that the fraud has been perpetrated across state lines also helps. It is also important to get your "second victim" in PA to join with you in seeking action on the part of the authorities.

Go through an itemized list of all the details you can think of regarding the scam and be pleasant but firm in seeking their help. The colder the trail gets, the less the chance of catching them. And the previous post was absolutely correct - the authorities CAN get the records from T-Mobile and track them that way - although if the scammers were using a stolen or hacked cell or a stolen credit card to get their phone subscription then that avenue might just turn up more victims.

Good luck (and if you believe in Karma, these guys will probably meet a nasty end in due course in any event - face to face fraud is very high risk business).
