My DVX100A with only 11 hours on the deck was stolen last weekend here in the LA area. I decided to sell it and upgrade to the 100B "which I did", and sold this to a guy using Paypal which I have done many times in the past.

As soon as I got the email from Paypal that I have cash I personally delivered the camera to his buddy who lived nearby. Got back home to find an email stating insufficient funds were there and possible fraud.

Pawel Tudruj was the name he told me. however that person has actually contacted me and told me that someone has stolen his identity.

Here is the information that I have forwarded to the authorities.

DVX serial number H5TD00621

Pawel Tudruj
760-912-6106
1600 Air Expressway
Adelanto, CA 92301

ptudruj@yahoo.com

jive2122@aol.com

John 714-485-5771 was the friend that I met to do the swap.

I feel like a total tool however know that this was a normal looking transaction that went terribly wrong.

If anyone is purchasing a used DVX100A check out that serial number, if they can help me get the camera you'll get $500

Joe -

So sorry to hear about this loss. I am guessing PayPal will not help you because you did not buy it at auction, is that correct?

I had a weird thing happen to me yesterday when I got an email supposedly from service@paypay.com saying I had purchased some baseball tickets. It looked completely legal. There was also a button I could push if I had not made this transacation and wanted to report it. Instead, I went to my PayPal account and found out nothing had posted to my account. I then jumped back to my email, made note of the transactions numbers and then went back to my paypal account to check the transaction numbers. They were both invalid. However, the guy supposedly that sold these to me had over 2,000 transactions to his name and 100% rating. I contacted him and received an auto response email that he has been spammed and to not respond to the email the guy sent me. He said if I pushed the button in my email challenging the transaction, the person doing this would capture my email address for further abuse. The bad thing - I cannot find any way to tell PayPal or anyone else about what happened so this guy can be put out of business. Consider this a wranting to others. If anyone knows who I should contact about this, let me know.

yah this all sucks @ss. I'm a huge eBay and Paypal advocate of many years and good times however this kills. Just called 800-vivaldi for insurance, too little too late on this one.

If anyone see's this SN out there please let me and others know.

if his buddy that took delivery of the camera lives near by why dont you go back to where you met him? or get his address from the phone number? it sounds like you have a lot more info than most people when they get scammed..

We met on a side st in Pasadena. I've thought of all this thanks. They have all disconnected their phones. they likely live anywhere in So cal.

DUDE I am really really really sorry that this has happened to you. I had the same exact thing happen to me in the LA area seven months ago when I sold my Canon GL2 to upgrade up to a DVX100a. And guess what....the guys name was John. I really hope it isn't the same guy that I had to deal with, Philipino I suspect. I wished that his insides would rot out and all his family members who be shot to death, so hopefully that happened. Take it as a loss man. A very bad loss. You can write it off as a tax write off with a police report. If you'd like, I would be more than willing to stage a severe beating on this guy by staging another sale, you post on craigslist that you're selling a camera, then we meet him and I'll have ten goons waiting nearby with baseball bats, tweezers and sand paper, no joke. These are the scumiest people on the face of the planet and they need some retaliation.

I'm really sorry man. I hope you find your camera but my guess is that's its already been sold.

And one more thing for everyone out there,

DO NOT

DO NOT

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PAYPAL !!!!!!

They are useless

go to paypalsucks.com and read the horror stories in the forum

First of all, sorry to hear about your camera. You must be sick to your stomach. I would be devastated if that was me. About a month ago, I purchased another used DVX100a and was terrified to do it. In fact, before I sent my PayPal money, I felt I needed to discuss the "transaction" with the guy over the phone so I could get a vibe. Lucky for me, he turned out to be a really nice guy and everything turned out perfectly. But, you bring up a good thing to be aware of: that sellers can get screwed too. Sorry again.

Man, you scare me with this information. I just started using PayPal about 2 months ago and so far (knock on wood) have had a good experience. But, I'm wondering if I should reconsidering using them for my transactions...

Rick
PS you have any horror stories?

As for PayPal... I think there is good and bad with everything. I have used it over the years for Ebay auctions and onlyhad one problem, which was my own fault. If you are dealing with a jackass, yeah PayPal will suck... if you are dealing with an honest customer, chances are it will all be fine. Like I said, good and bad with everything. I take it all with a grain of salt. You find a site bashing anything and anyone these days.

My own .02.

Thats Why Canadian Banks and U.S banks should start doing email money transfers get rid of PayPal I always do email money transfers it is so fast and the money is always there.

Here is one horror story,

dude sells his 15K yacht through paypal, does all the paperwork, meets the seller, beforehand the seller put the money into his account, all good right ?

no...

six months later, the guy who sold the yacht gets 15K deducted out of his bank account from paypal, no questions asked

he was able to solve the problem within a week by contacting paypal and the authorities, but still, this doesn't make up for the fact that Paypal are a bunch of asswipes, assholes, jerkoffs

F them and Bill Gates in the butt

..sorry but I hate paypal, the fact that someone can deposit money into an account, then pull it out is Fing ridiculous!!!! Why paypal doesn't have something setup beforehand to catch people like this, I have no Fing clue, its beyond me, i hate them

p.s. Did I mention that I hate them ?

since the guy used his aol account you should contact them, i think there was a law suit a few years back about them releasing information but if you get the law involved, they may give you as much as they can..

and the phone prefix is from Yorba Linda in Orange county, which SBC services, call them...

Yes you did... and I assume you know this yacht guy personally?

Paypal can't take the money out of your bank account--out of your PayPal account only. If the guy left 15k in his PayPal account for 6 months more power to him for not needing the money...

and selling your yacht with PayPal???? Sorry, but that really is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Even with credit cards/debit cards, there is a clear defined time frame that you have to refute an item. I can't see PayPal's being 6 months.

Regardless, I'm not going argue PayPal stories...just, I've never had a problem and will continue to use them. Next time I sell a yacht, however, I'll be sure not to use PayPal...

Best advice...wait until the money clears and is in your bank account before shipping the item(s). It can take 5-7 days. Also verify as much of their info as possible...get phone numbers, addresses... do a reversephonedirectory.com search to see if they come up (they may be unlisted). You can also try to verify the information with an operator. Ship the items so they have to be signed for and get proof of signature.

Otherwise, cash or certified check or money orders work great! Credit cards of any type can lead to fraud and chargebacks!

thanks. what do you think about face-to-face (i.e. local ) transactions? any risks in that?

Really, for me, it would depend on how much information you have on the person buying, etc. Photocopy driver's license to prove ID, etc.

If it is local, get references! Get a work reference for sure. Call and verify.

The thing is again, if you are using PayPal or any kind of CC transaction, you need to wait until you securely have the funds.
