Ive been wondering since Ive been messing around with my Adapter.

In what way the construction of the stock lens of my DVX different from the lens capable of achieving shallow deph of field?

Basically Im asking, lens are built in a way to achieve the same effect...what makes SLR/Movie Lens differ from stock DV?

I know CCD size plays a role but theres gotta be more. Is there a way for companies to produce stock 35s and keeping a 4 digit price.

It isn't a difference in the lens, but in the use of the intermediate adapter. The focus screen (ground glass, spinning CD, etc) is what the front lens focuses on, and since the size of the image is much larger than the CCDs within the DVX, the resultant DOF is reduced. The lens of the DVX simply reads the image from the focus screen.

CCD size doesn't play a role, it is the whole difference. a 40mm lense is a 40mm lense on a 35mm camera, a 16mm camera and a 1/3ccd camera, the difference is how much each of these frame sizes sees in the lens. The 35mm area is much larger, thus giving you a wider field of view. The 1/3ccd is basically the size of a very small crop of the 35mm sensor, therefore the field of view is much narrower, thus making it more telephoto. Now there are other differences in that a lens for a 1/3in ccd does not have to project such a large image, as the ccd is very small, however, a 40mm lense at f2.8 will have the exact same depth of field on a 35mm camera as a 1/3in camera, but the 1/3 camera will be in full telephoto, whereas the 35mm camera will be approxamely normal vision.
