Just wondering what people think of this lens. I am pretty happy with it so far, but I am an amateur. The body here is only a 180 dollars cheaper without the lens, so didn't really make sense to buy the body only.

What other lenses are people happy with? Suggestions and recommendations are welcome, especially Nikkor, since I am most familiar with those..

The kit lens is very good. I have no complains. For a camera like the GH1 to shoot so well from the get go and cost $1500.00 is pretty cool.

The kit lens is pretty good. For stills it's actually quite sharp till 70mm or so, then slowly gets softer. In video I haven't really noticed though!

I found the kit lens to be a good solution for wide shots from 14mm to 20mm then the inexpensive AIS and FD primes tend to take over for 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 85mm as they deliver better quality.

Agree with JDavis. If you're outdoors and shooting events, stock lens is great. For narrative work, it's far too slow for anything 25mm-100mm. By 25mm, f/4.7, 35mm, f/5.0, 50mm f/5.6. With the 4/3 sensor and crop factor, you need the fastest lenses you can get. Excited about the 20mm f/1.7. However, stock lens autofocus make it great for non low-light steadicam work.

I'll echo what everybody else says, it will get you a long way, especially if you supplement it with some primes. It's main weak point apart from speed is the sticky and overly stiff zoom, fine if you need to reframe quickly between shots, but getting smooth zoom shots is tricky. Some kind of cine style zoom lever which could be attached to the collar would possibly make this more workable.

I just got my GH1 five hours ago. The lens is sharp, i' m finding video too sharp on playback directly from camera.

The zoom is very stiff. It's not a ring you can gently 'throw' into motion like a zoom with an arm.

F4 is painful. Not depth wise, lightwise. There are streaks on my shadows as well in 1080, I'm wondering if that's just a lowlight artifact.

This camera is lovely.

I'm very happy.
