Stills from "The Bride" (updated)

Here are a few stills from a sequence in The Bride, a 10 or so minute film I'm currently in production on.  I'll post more stills and maybe a synopsis as things come together (meaning: let your imagination run rampant as to what this is about, 'cause right now it's under wraps). :-)

Hope you enjoy!

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

looks good! are you using a dvx100a?

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Looking good. Looks like you white balanced to indoor lighting and shot outdoors--not my favorite stylistic decision but it definitely works here, although I'd bring the white just a tad closer to true white in post.

Anyhow, where did you shoot? The scenery is great. I really like the DOF and soft light (did you use a reflector or was that just natural?) in the second shot, especially with the strands of hair in the foreground. Very nice in general.

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

I shot in the local park, the mountains and rain were added in post (as was the cold bluish look- given the mood of the scene and the fact that it takes place in a rainstorm, it really added to the overall atmosphere).

Thanks for the feedback- I'll post shots from other scenes as they're completed.  :-)

*Edit* Yes, I'm using the 100a.

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Yeah, about the rain....it's visible even over the letterbox. Just make sure to crop it out and you're set...very nice overall, though.

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

hey thse are some great pics. albiet as some of the others have said, they are a bit too blue for me as well... a little less "smurfy" would be good imho.
cant wait to see it!

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Whoa.. I never even noticed the rain over the letterboxing... good catch, thanks.

I'm using FCP 4 on a mac. Not sure about when we'll be able to get a clip up exactly, but it'll be soon. Right now there isn't a finished sequence long enough to be worth posting, it's all in bits and pieces.

LOL, the whole movie isn't Smurfy, although I'm really on a big "oversaturated colors" kick right now, so it's tempting. :-) The opening sequence takes place during a sunrise though, so hope you like pinkish-orange.

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Not to sound picky, but the mountains in the first scene grab have white snow, but the bride's dress has a very noticable blue tint. I know that the mountains were added in post production, but should they have at least a slight blue tint to them? Without it, it makes the wedding dress look even more blue.

Just my $.02 worth. :)

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Yeah- the white snow up on the peaks of the mountains, in the original Colorado picture, was lit by a very orange fringe of sunset-light. If I'd blued them down any more, the base of the mountains wouldn't match with the trees color-wise. So just figured in a 2.5 second shot not many people would notice... maybe it's just darker and more overcast near the base than it is at the peak, I dunno.

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

the mountains were added in post? Damn not bad..how the hell did you do that?

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

If you have a really blue sky, you've got a natural bluescreen -- and many compositing apps could adjust for the light-to-dark gradient in the blue.

Just a theory.

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Even easier, if there's no camera movement, make a matte in photoshop.

Re: Stills from "The Bride"

Looks awesome. Was the grain intentional or unavoidable?

Re: Stills from "The Bride" (updated)

Grain was unintentional. If anyone has tips on avoiding it that'd be excellent.

Re: Stills from "The Bride" (updated)

It bothered me not because it degades the image (It actually works well), but because I am getting pretty scared about grain problems with the DVX. But it's cool. And the production design s great also, very poetic.

Andy,

A) what filter did you used ?
B) did you use the anamorphic adapter ?
