in the comic book shop there were lights everywhere. in the shot with oliver there's a light on the floor behind him with a red "gel" aiming up. you can see it under his elbow. as for CC these were done just to post when we seriously get into post then i'll whip out the vectorscope and go nasty...on one of them though when i went to adjust the levels...it was flatlined...like no color information. it might've been the first one, but it was pretty well lit. on the last one...me the genius i white balanced with the warming filter on...the shot came out near purple. you can still see it in the sky. i forgot i had it on. i thought i just had the problack-mist...ah but no.
back to the comic book shop...no fear like bringing in nearly 2K in lights around a bunch of valuable yet highly flammable comic books.
that's all the dvx...i have a panasonic 1CCD cam that i use for other stuff and i tried to manipulate shots to mimic the dvx and i got close, but no dice. besides having 3 CCDs, whatever the dvx uses for "film-like" color is awesome. i was shooting somewhere and showing a group of kids the video on the LCD and then said "check this out" switched it to 24p and their jaws dropped. "that's cool"
sacksnack...
thanks. i personally like the blue in the superman poster. ah but cyndi is quite the distraction.
vincent price...
still trying to change that one. we have to reshoot it anyway. there's scenes that we didn't get to and then lost the location so we have to reshoot everything. which is okay...the hallway was bright, ridiculously bright. there's a set of lights every few feet and then all white walls...nightmare. so we went up and loosened every other bulb/tube. tried to make a couple of them flicker. anyway next time i'll get what i want. thanks for posting.
the first is almost what the original shot looked like...but yes the second is more towards the route i'll be going. and on a personal note...i need to hunker down on wardrobe. everybody wants to wear black. there have been only a few that have made black look good...one of them being Darth Vader...but black and white to me kill a shot. you need color. people are drawn to color. okay i'm starting to soapbox...hey does magic bullet have a bleach bypass effect?
vincent if you don't mind run the last pic through the bleach bypass. i want a hot desert look. do 2 or 3 to give me an idea...if it looks good then magic bullet will be ordered.
rubop...
if you mean exterior...el paso, texas is tied for second among cities with the most sunshine. matter of fact that last pic we shot on a day that was supposed to be "partly cloudy" with a slight chance for rain and it did rain that evening thankfully we were inside shooting.

First two grabs look dark, if not underlit and slightly out of focus (maybe the compression). I love the lighting in the comic book shop, nice colors. And grab 6 has a nice composition and good mood. The lighting in grab 5 is nice, but the practical in the middle of the frame is so blown that it distracts from the characters. Looking forwards to seeing the project when it's done though, nice job.
thanks vincent i have a good idea and magic bullet is on order...thanks again!
crazymcnutjob...
good eye. the first one is dark on purpose don't want anyone to know who the two guys are. the second we're reshooting i now have a better idea how to pull off the look i want thanks to everyone here. grab 6 is part of a big "reveal" and i just hope it all comes together the way i have it in my head...well it looks good on paper and #5 truly was an accident i white balanced with that light on.
