Just got an EX1R. The no brainer question is what is the maximum quality of a still? Gosh it's quite good but how does it compare to the quality of a dedicate still camera. How are these rated - as in the number of pixels? Looks like we're closing the gap.
A still photo of 1920x1080 is close to 2k resolution . However, because single sensor cameras have a debayer filter the EX1 has three sensors the EX1 resolves images like a single chip camera of 2.5k-3k depending on how strong the debayer and AA filters are. (Those filters may reduce resoluton by 20-33%.)
The EX1 tests out to the full Nyquist limits for its sensor size.
This leads me to assert amid great controversy, especially from scarleteers, that the 2/3" scarlet images won't be that different than the EX1 images, especially with a Nanoflash. (A fraction of a stop makes the DOF the same and the Scarlet is slated to be a 3k single chip camera.)
Lion shot on EX1. Click for medium size, then click that picture for full size.
