Still looking for a Follow Focus?

Hello Papa, which lens is that? The only lens I've used my Indifocus with was the 14-140 and it sucked (I know it's not optimal but It's the only one I got to test for now), sticky, couldn't start a smooth pull, my (hopeful) guess would be the lens ring is too sticky for FF usage.

Have you used with other lenses, fully manual and not, if you can give me some feedback and light on this subject, it would be great.

Thanks man.

I've used it with everything I've ever owned:

Tokina 11mm-16mm
Canon 18mm-135mm
Nikon primes from 25mm-135mm

My 24mm and 135mm are super stiff but the torque wasn't enough to screw up my ff.

The only reason it might be difficult with your long zoom may be because there is a very small turning radius on those lenses but I've never encountered a lens that was to stuff to follow.

Not saying it wont, but heres the question I ask of my gear. Can it work everyday without niggling issues and work the same 12 months after I bought after its been worked, packed / unpacked, been in heat / humidity or dry / cold?

I'm not the guy to ask for that. I would imagine no, but I don't think that indifocus is going after that market.

I've shot a feature length film, probably over a dozen corporate gigs/live events and maybe about 10 short films and have neve r had to repair it send my unit in.

Does the indiefocusPro reverse its gears so you can crack focus with Nikon lens' "The right way"?

Great question. Not sure. I've only ever used nikons really, but i know what you mean. For me i love the way nikons go because when i spin the wheel away from me (forward ) it pulls focus towarsd infinity, and vice versa. Lemme look into it.

Let's see if i can break it down:

IndiFOCUS PRO Geared Ultimate Review.

Taking delivery of the IndiFOCUS was not as easy as I expected. As it took two emails, a phone call, and what I would consider a longer than normal wait for the product to arrive. When it did finally arrive most of the parts were loose in the packing peanuts, and many of the screws for the lens focus gears had backed out and were loose in the bottom of the box.

I ordered my new indifocus pro over the phone on tuesday night and received it thursday before noon. Perhaps they were back ordered or receiving many orders at the same time? Remember, back in the day Tim was doing it pretty much as a one man show. His team has grown significantly since then to better serve, some of whom i've had the chance of speaking with on the phone. Very nice people.

I recently ordered a couple items from IndiSystem. Just in December actually. I can confirm (as well as others in various other threads here on DVXuser, just do a search), that it's difficult to communicate with them via email. They go as far as to post an email address and even have an online form for electronic communication. I had issues with my order and typed details of my issues and sent them via email and via the online form. I never received a response. I waited 3 days before I finally decided to call them. Tim said "Oh yeah I see your email here. What do you want to do?" So I'm thinking at that point, you read my email but just didn't want to respond? That's rude and poor customer service. If you don't want to respond via email then don't post an email address or have a form on your website to submit questions. So I returned everything for a refund.

I can accept that I'm paying a lower price for a lower quality product or a product with less features. But I don't care how much your product is, whether it's dirt cheap or the most expensive thing on the market, I expect decent customer service. If you can't give me decent customer service then you don't deserve my business. Also, this isn't the first time this has happened for me with IndiSystem. I purchased stuff from them 2 other times and had questions before my purchases. It was the same thing. I ended up having to call after not getting a response to my emails. IndiSystem has lost me as a customer for life because of that, unless they decide to change that aspect of their business.

The best customer service I received recently was with Varizoom. Quick responses and amazing customer service overall, through email and on the phone. I would purchase from Varizoom again for sure.

My recommendation, if you're looking for a decent inexpensive follow focus, is to go with D|Focus. I have one and for $165 shipped to me, I find it to be a very good follow focus for the money. Beyond that I'd go with a Redrock v2 before they're discontinued. v3 is coming soon and I image it will be more expensive that the v2. There's also Shoot35, but it will cost a little more than the Redrock v2 to order and ship into the US. What I really like about the Redrock is the quick release so you can quickly flip it around to the dumb side of the camera if needed, without having to take anything else off the rods.

Has anyone tried the snap gears with any of these?

Canon FD 24mm 1.4 L
Canon FD 50mm 1.4
Canon FD 85mm 1.2 L

Those are what I'd be using.

Thanks!

It should work. There are some faily large large large rings that come with.

I have called several times. Left messages, and received no response. I might get their Areeba shoulder support and mattebox only because I don't want to spend $1K each. I'm getting my package started. When i start making cash, i won't mind so much if i have to replace some gear.

does anyone know if the DFocus would work with these lenses from RP lenses:

http://www.rplens.com/products.htm

I'm thinking of getting a cinema converted set of either thier zeiss or nikon primes.

Hi Pietro, for what i see you have the 14-140 and the Indifocus mini, you said is not optimal but how that bad is? i´m asking you because maybe buy a Indifocus mini, for the 14-140 and for some canon FD lenses.

Cheers
