Still image manipulation help.

I'm starting to do more corporate video work and a lot of that means working with still pictures. In the past, when I wanted to import a still, I'd simply re-format it to 16x9 in Photoshop so Avid would scretch it out or put in black bars. For animations, I'd go ahead and take it into Combustion of After Affects, and do a slow zoom then render it as an uncompressed Quicktime and bring it back into Avid. This however is rather time consuming and I'm curious if Avid can do this on its own (since apparently it can do a lot of other things I normally use Combustion and After Effects for like keying).

Is there any way I can just bring a photo into Avid and determine how it reformats it right there? Is there any way i can bring a very high rez photo in an have it do stuff like zooms and pans on it (I know I can just up the sale but that loses resolution)?

Pan & Zoom effect. Can't remember which category in the effects pallet it resides in, but it's there. It works pretty well. You'll probably find that there are some photos that will benefit from the longer process of using Combustion or AE.

Thanks just discovered the Pan & Zoom featuer while going over the massive 350 page Effects pdf (damn is that thing redundant). I'll still probably do my own stuff in more professional applications but it's just not worth it to have to do every single moving picture in a seperate program when doing corporate videos that'll just end up on DVD.

David,

I know P&Z well, but much prefer Boris RED (or Avid FX if that's what you've got). It makes quick work of it, is right there in your effects tools, and does a much CLEANER job than I have been able to get P&Z to do. Mind you, I like to work with VERY oversized images, and sometimes make fairly big moves. Ken Burns would hate it.
