Sticky 15mm rods or clamps?

I saw a review of a shoulder rig, where after 2 years the person was struggling to pull the rods out. Is this common? Is it the actual clamp that doesn't fully open properly for the rod to slide or is it the rod loosing its smoothness that is causing the problem?

If it's the clamp, can you just stretch it back out?

Also, how long do the threads on the clamps and the bolt thread latches last for?

Are 15mm rod systems durable and long lasting?

Is there a way to prevent these sort of issues from occurring? How do you guys maintain your 15mm rig so that it clamps smoothly and still retains its grip?

I just bought mine used, but would like to know how to maintain my rig so it last longer and what to expect and watch out for. Do you people pull your rig apart after every session or just leave it tightened together always?

Thanks

I've developed a big pile of rod odds & ends over the years. I just recently sold my very first rig and it still functioned perfectly.

The biggest problem I've had was with some Jag35 stuff that wasn't perfectly aligned... so your rods were 60mm apart at the back of the rig, but maybe 61mm at the front. So nothing would slide on or off easily.

Only other issue has been rods that thread together to make longer rods. They tend to rattle loose and I've learned to just get longer rods. But thread lock (LocTite) can fix this too.

But I've never had a clamp fail or a rail get stuck. And I buy a lot of oddball parts & clamps from chinese & taiwanese ebay sellers, quality has held up well.

In my case, I seem to take all those parts and build different rigs from time to time, so nothing has been bolted together for years at a time or anything. And it's not humid where I live so we don't have a lot of rust & corrosion problems one might have in Houston or Florida. But I think you're worrying too much. Keep 'em clean and dry. If you live in high humidity, mayeb take everything apart every few weeks and check for corrosion.

Do you just sand it down if there is corrosion? I am thinking of oiling the latch bolt threads but I have heard that it may cause over tightening. Any recommendations of oil to use?

I have seen somewhere of people putting talcum powder on the rods for better smoothness. Any truth to this?
