I have always heard people say that turn the camera stibilization off if one is using a tripod, the explanation ive heard is that they tend to work against each other and thus ending in a bad result. How then is it possible that a camera with an in built stibilizer, using a lens with own stibilizer can still be placed onto a stibilizer gimbal and people claim to produce the best stibilization result?, i find it confusing.

I suppose when on a tripod one want a rock solid image and with IS engaged there's almost always some sort of image floating. I tend to always turn off IS when on a tripod just to avoid the float. On a gimbal everything moves and IS smooths out the little imperfections the gimbal has or at least helps to make it smoother.

It has to do with panning and sometimes when you start a plan slowly the camera stabilization doesn't know if it is shake or if you are actually attempting to start a pan. The stabilization will try to compensate when you start that pan and keep the camera sturdy. The same has been true for decades with video cameras and lenses with stabilization. You don't want to fight with the stabilization when doing movements you actually intended to do.

What Thomas said. Might be small issues when rock steady(?), but I always understood it to be more about it messing with small, subtle movements on a tripod than a rock solid shot on a tripod.
