Steps to get the best crisp and clear vidoes on Vimeo?

I uploaded some shots straight from my GH13 and was not too happy I have seen way crisp and clear footages on Vimeo. Is there a secret? Did you guys use some kind of program to get it really clear. I would love some suggestions on what I can do to get nice crisp and clear footages. Thanks

What program are you using to compress your video? I am using compressor with a relatively high bitrate (at least three times the recommended bitrate by vimeo.) i am also using a plus account.

I am not using anything. I use Sony Vegas to Edit then I render out to .wmv. Where can I get compressor? is that a program? I didn't know that the plus accounts give you better HD. I will buy one then. Thanks

Whoa.. slow down man. Dang. What are your video settings for your wmv export?
Sorry, lol didn't think I was going that fast. Anyways my settings for Sony vegas Pro 9 are:

Mode: Quality VBR
Format: WIndows Media Video 9
Image Size: High Definition (1280x720)
Frame Rate; 29.97 (NTSC)
Seconds Per Keyframe: 5
Quality : 100%

Nothing Checked on" Bitrate"

Nothing Checked on "Index/Summary"

Video Rendering Quality : Best

Hope this helps. Thanks again:laugh:

Try an H.264 file with 1 second per keyframe 23.97 NTSC framerate (assuming you're shooting 24p) and make sure it comes out as a .mov or .mp4. Set bitrate to say, 25600 kbits per sec. Not really sure what the settings look like in vegas but you should have options similar to these:

I use these settings for shorter videos as it results in files of 11.5 GB/Hour.

i know there is a preset recommend by vimeo for premiere. you could use that as reference. stick with H.264. your first post is quite misleading saying that it is straight out of camera but you actually export it to wmv but yeah ben's settings should set you right.

vimeo sucks and was long surpassed by youtubes encode quality....

You have to pay to get 1920 x 1080p....
They downrez all your files to MUSH...

Yea, sorry for the misleading question. I meant that for the videos that I uploaded sometimes were .mts straight from the camera and still were not as crisp as allot of videos I have seen. Thanks Ben for the answer. I will give it a go later.

I totally disagree. YouTube totally beats the crap out of video you upload. I think the problem is people on both sites don't know how to properly compress their videos. With vimeo it is just more noticeable because you're usually looking at really nice work that is getting ruined by web compression, whereas on youtube you're so used to watching a mix of crummy amateur content and perfectly compressed corporate content that you don't really notice. Vimeo is also the much better community, and has much better quality films. For me it's a valid substitute for your own hosting, and it looks more professional when you embed it on your site it or link to it.

I'm new to streaming...Vimeo I do prefer over Youtube though, the limits on the paid site ar 5 Gigs though :( I'm looking to do hosting for 40-50 Gigs....any recommendations to do this on a budget?
