Steps I should take to get flattest and widest dynamic range from Varicam HDC27

I've spent well over a year now with my Varicam and I am working on fine tuning my collection of self made LUTs and I was just seeing if any of you had any insight on what steps I should take to get the most information and flattest picture for grading later with the varicam? I always shoot with a dynamic range of 500% in film rec mode, but would boosting the black stretch and master ped do anything to help latitude, or would it just introduce noise? Any other settings I should look into to achieve this? Just using factory settings and 500% film rec, i clocked the varicam at close to 12 stops.
