Hey all,

If any of you are familiar with Greek life at an HBCU (historically black college/university), the Greek step show is one of the biggest events that goes down on campus. It is a really big competition.

One of the important aspects that judges look at is the theme and the introduction. I was asked by our Zeta’s to direct, shoot and edit their introduction piece which is played in front of almost 10,000 people (the step show is held at the local coliseum). It turned out really good is by far some of my best work.

Check it out and let me know what you all think!

Wow, three days and no response??!! Overall, this was a great video. Nice pacing, framing of shots, action zooms, background Fx. The only thing I would have changed, which would have had a huge impact actually, would be to film them in different environments. This was too long to have only two environments. Also, when you had stills rotating in background, the image quality was quite low. Was that stilled video footage or a still camera shot? Doesn't look like a still from a DVX--too grainy.

What equipment did you use? By the way, could you pass on numbers for Radio and/or UnfaZed? hee hee

Being as though I pledged Alpha Phi Alpha I have to respond to this...I think the execution was great. Shot and edited well. I would have liked to see some actual stepping cut in between the shots to give it a hint more of flavor.

I shot a 5 minute film a few years ago for the Alphas at Hampton University. They played the video right before they took to the stage and ended up winning the step show.

I have to say again ... this is really top notch! I didn't notice you were the same person/crew until later, but you've come a long way since Race Patrol. RP showed that you had technique and good ideas, but perhaps not the equipment to make it pop. This model video pops with great camera technique and great post-production. Again, what equipment are you using. Also, what are you using for the background ... PixelPops?

One more suggestion to add: I wouldn't show so much of the narrator herself. I think doing a voice-over would be more effective--or perhaps just quick blips of her face. Definitely cut the part at the very end where she does the lip-thing, like she's stating, "OK, I hope I got it right this time." She's cute, but too much face-time. Just IMHO.

Hey,

In my personal opinion I didn't think they needed the narrator for it, but it was part of their introduction and they wanted it in (can't argue too much with the client). Although this was sort of a favor for a friend and I only made $40 dollar from it (big favor).

I would have liked to put some stepping in but this was all last minute, as in we shot and edited on Thursday and the step show was Friday lol. But yeah, I feel you guys on the comments. I used a light blue satin sheet in the background of the narrator, and a white botero backdrop for the modeling shots (standing up and laying down).

I added some white diffusion with magic bullet in post. The stills were taken with a regular still digital camera, although I dunno why they came out so grainy (I had my friend take pictures while I shot).

Equipment used was just a DVX and 1 tota light (750w).

Thanks again, glad you all liked it!
