FEATURE: STEP OFF (was "Battle") - Narrative Feature

Martin,

I'm sending a guy your way. His name is Robert and he's interested in Screenwriting. I told him to look up ATL Screen Group and to come check you guys out.

No problem. We've got a "craft meeting" This week which is always good for Q & A from new writers.

Unrelated...am I the only one who got my other links in my sig clipped with a message?

Was there an announcement? Was it a huge issue?

Anyone know?

-M

We're about to release a Mixtape which features several artists from the film as well as other Hip-Hop and hosted by Dres Tha BeatNik who also appears in the film.

When we put it out I'll definitely post a link as it will be free to download and if you have suggestions of sites that might want to link to it, definitely let me know.

The rough cut is nearly complete and we're pretty pleased thus far...lots of work still to do.

If you still haven't seen the trailer...www.battle-movie.com Would love more comments.

Thanks,

-Martay

For anyone who reads Frequency Magazine...Battle gets a full page Article in the spring issue.

If I can find it online I'll post it. As it is, the writer sent me a pdf version of the magazine.

It's an alternative music magazine. Nice piece.

I'll post it in the blog when I get an opportunity.

-M

Okay, the MixTape is ready for FREE Download...if you aren't a huge fan of Hip-Hop...send the link as a gift to your friends who do like it. It's an eclectic mix of styles but mostly talented undergrounders. Definitely check it out here: http://www.battle-movie.com/

Thanks,

Martin

I envy the controversy that's fanning other threads :)

My thread is lonely.

Hope y'all will pass this link to your friends who enjoy Hip-Hop Music, lots of quality FREE music available to them (and you).

So be sure to pass it along.

Thanks,

Martin

LOL - That's funny Martin. But Hey that's how it goes sometimes. Seems like the only sure fire way to get people to constantly stay on your threads is for you to have a "how to" thread. One of the greatest things about the Corrado and ALPFD threads was all the info given on making the project, securing funds, etc - it only helped things when someone on the set was a bit of a diva to add drama to the mix. LOL But your thread isn't lonely - heck you wanta see lonely the Coming Correct and Voices threads are so far back that's it's too funny to speak on them. I'll resurrect them next week probably - have a bit of new news.

jls4,

I hear you. And it's my fault that I don't have pics hosted so I can paste in here to make the thread as dynamic as others.

Still, I used to update here when the blog was updated and figured it would act as if I was posting that info into the thread. I understand though and am thankful that a few folks have been avid followers of the thread. Lots of action on vimeo and youtube as well as the site also is encouraging...I just wanted to talk more about it in spots like this so I'm a tad jealous of that :)

I'll keep posting updates though...and maybe they'll get juicier LOL.

thanks as always for checking in,

Martay

Semi-Official Mixtape Press Release:

Battle the movie, presents a FREE mixtape with the not so original yet ready for "branding" title, BATTLE: THE MIXTAPE.

It's free to download at www.battle-movie.com and the tracklist is at the blog

The Mixtape is Hosted by Hip-Hop Host extraordinaire: DRES THA BEATNIK
and Mixed by Reign of Terror and Psyche Origami's own DJ DAINJA.

Both of these talented heads appear in Battle. A cameo by the great Talib Shabazz is featured as well.

The mix features an eclectic collection of Hip-Hop that features some of the producers who appear in the movie like: HeadRoc (who plays the lead character Rippa), Trimm (who plays Dirty Dollar$ in the film), Rhythmlord (plays Beat Priest and is doing score for the movie), as well as Green Tea (a two man producing team that play Beat Battlers) and the actual Dirty Dollar$. I definitely wanted to give them a little extra shout but most of the rest of the music features talented Atlanta underground artists like Psyche Origami, Collective Efforts, The Remnant, and more as well. This is not the official soundtrack but don't be surprised if some of this music winds up in the movie.

Definitely download it and enjoy but be sure to pass along the FREE music link to all your friends who like Hip-Hop.

Oh yeah, about the movie Battle. It is a coming of age drama about an unknown producer RIPPA (Clifton) who pursues his passion for composing music. He wants to produce music for the top rappers in the industry and be respected as a producer worldwide.

Laron Austin (“Beat Makers”) directs the film starring Chris Burns (“The Lena Baker Story”, “Somebodies”) Onira Tares (“Jack Squad”) and Conrad “Headroc” Clifton. Scripted by Martin Kelley and Eddie Singleton. Executive Produced by Cassius Weathersby (“You Got Served”) Produce by Kelley and Singleton along with Kenno Rixson and Bennie Swint.

As for the progress of the film, we're deep in post and working hard on music, sound, and fine cutting. If you want more information on the film or the mixtape please feel free to contact me (martin@cinematl.com). Press Inquiries very welcome.

Thanks to everyone for your continued interest in the movie,

Martin Kelley

This was interesting:
http://gordonandthewhale.com/poster-parade-may-1-16/

Got taken to task a little about our poster...fair comments I guess (hard to not be biased) but I do appreciate the fact that someone dealt with it along the same lines as any other major movie poster.

I'm glad he likes the tagline...I think it says a lot about the theme of our flick and glad at least he checked for it.

However, "Battle" in a Hip-Hop setting is far from a physical altercation so I would argue that most folks in the 1st line target audience isn't going to assume some actual physical fight is inevitable.

I'm pleased that we're getting some bleed "out there" on movie sites who are treating our little movie like a contender though.

Would love more thoughts from DVXUSERs on some of these topics though...what do y'all think of trailer, poster, mixtape, etc. all can be accessed at these two sites: www.battle-movie.com or www.battlethemovie.blogspot.com

thanks for those who've been active on this thread but hope to meet more folks too,

Martin Kelley

Anyone have a favorite song from the Mixtape...somebody here contacted me via email with one which was exciting. At least knowing that my thread feels lonely but is actually getting a few more views than I imagined.

Finally did intensive checking of webstats and lots of DVX users are checking the site...so thanks y'all. Would love more posts on the thread too but I appreciate a lot of you going to the site and checking out the trailer and (hopefully) downloading the mixtape. We will be featuring some of the songs from the mix tape in the film and on the sound track. We've confirmed all but 12 music queues up to this point. I was working with the composer this weekend and we're still getting some great Hip-hop producers working hard on the beats we'll be featuring.

Anyway, just a quick thanks to the DVX folks who've been to the site.

Interesting - good going Martin. Called you last week BTW. Guess you've been super busy promoting. I'll hit you up lata.

Yeah, been meaning to call you but keep getting sidetracked. Promoting and working with the composer on score...tough balancing act doing the score when most of the music will be high octane Hip-Hop...the traditional score elements are proving to be a challenge.

Thanks Stan and Congratulations on the Nominations from AOF for your two (well three since you're part of Kerberos too) films and yourself.

Here's our latest update.

Just had a featured NIGHT on local Radio (Atlanta, GA is our locality).

http://www.wrek.org/Schedule?afternoon (click on the WREKroom Renaissance
) to hear the show.

First they featured an hour of our BATTLE: The Mixtape and then did an interview with Director Laron Austin, Lead Actor Conrad "HeadROC" Clifton, Lead Actress Onira Tares, and I even get into the act toward the end.

So, sorry not to give a heads up last Thursday but you can listen to the July 8th Broadcast anyway.

I appreciate the WREKroom Renaissance crew allowing us to come through and promote Battle.

As alway, if you haven't seen the trailer as yet, check the site www.battle-movie.com

Still finishing up the score and sound mixing but it will be done soon.

But go ahead ad SAVE IT to your NETFLIX QUEUE!

Thanks,

-Martin
