Hello, all DVX users! :)

We are renting next sunday 2 DVX100s (not model A, older 100), but the problem is I'm not familiar with the DVX camera, I haven't used it before. We are doing a studio with 3 cameras, 2 x DVX100 and one HVX200. I just got my first camera, HVX200, a few weeks ago, and that is my first videocam, so I am pretty rookie. But happy rookie. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Please, could someone tell me some kind of "step by step" instructions how I need to set up all cameras? How would you setup your cameras in this kind of setup? What is Step 1, step 2, step 3...? I know I have to use manual white balance on all the cameras, I think that is the first step. Is it best to use manual settings on everything and forget about the auto functions totally? What about the zebra-function? Is it best to use 80% settings?

And what kind of output options I have with DVXs? In HVX there are component out, s-video-out and RCA-out (or whatever it's called)...Are these the same in DVXs? I need to know how I can monitor my cameras on external monitor...and what kind cables I need buy before the shooting...

We are shooting in letterboxed 576/50i-mode on every camera.

I know these are probably quite hard questions but it would be so nice to have some kind of info before getting the cameras and I have only one day to play with babies before the shooting day.

But, please, if possible step by step instructions would be so cooooooool and really really heplful! :love4:

Thank you so much! Your help will be much appreciated! :dankk2:
, Pete.

Hi Pete!

First of all, good luck on the shoot, and have fun! Here are my suggestions:

I would say it would be a good idea to shoot fully manual. (I'm assuming this a locked down shoot, no roaming). That way you can set the same gain, white balance, iris, shutter speed, whatever. It will help you maintian a similar look between your cameras.

The DVX has S-video as well as RCA. I would reccomend using the S-Vid. You'll need s-video cables. If you are planning on going a long distance with your cables you'll need to get a signal booster. I'm not sure how far you can go before you need a booster (I'm sure there are far more knowledgeable people on the forum that can give you this number).

If you're not using multiple monitors you might want to consider picking up some kind of switcher to attach your monitor to so you don't have to be plugging and unplugging your cables into your monitor.

Don't forget to set monitor to your cameras using the colorbars built in.

If you have a firewire cable, you can connect the dvx's to each other to sync up the timecode.

If you tell me more about the shoot I might be able to offer some more advice. Good luck!
