Stealing locations.

I'm trying to find out how much trouble this is. I would like to shoot in a location that prohibits narrative shooting. It is a public place. If I were able to steal the shots with only my character in it, what kind of trouble could I be looking at?

You could always do it and say you did not know if you get caught. Just make sure not to post it on the internet that you are doing it.

The only trouble you would be looking at is getting your shoot shut down.

Shooting in public places is not illegal. Guerilla shoots happen all the time, from PI, to SWINGERS, etc. In Swingers, Doug Liman was approached by some cops as he was shooting a scene on a public road, then went to talk to them while the rest of the crew shot the scene discreetly (with radio mics). The police eventually told them to shut down if they didn't have a permit, but by then they'd got the shot!

So then I have a dilemma. I need to conceal the camera and get a tracking shot. I'm debating between two choices...iPhone4 or GoPro. Is the GoPro's image going to be that much better than the iPhone? And is either going to be acceptable for a shot surrounded by 7D footage?

Just use a DSLR! They will think you are a tourist. No one really knows that a DSLR will take GREAT Video!

IF you don't use 7D, the GoPro will merge with the 7D footage will minimal effort. Just make sure the lighting is really good for the GoPro; it does horrible in low light situations, absolutely horrible.
