Re: steadycam test

Re: steadycam test

i have a similar setup - replacee the head with a tripod head, and use a 12 inch bar for the bottom of the 3 - then you're set

Re: steadycam test

Yes - definately, the OIS will screw you up when panning and whatnot, makes it shakier (i've tested)

Re: steadycam test

dope, is it that wood plate that you put on there for bigger cameras?
hows that working out? can you post a pic?

Re: steadycam test

monte - can you post a pic of how you attached a tripod head to your rig? I've got one with a wood plate, but would much rather put a real tripod head on it.

As for the footage - not to shabby - with more practice comes more stable shots - I liked the shot along the fense, it really accented the movement nicely.

Re: steadycam test

yeah i have made the same thing and it works well once you get used to it. You used a 5lb weight? lol wow i only use a 2.5 and it seems to be ok.

Ive found that not holding the 'pipe' too tightly works best. Then you can avoid that side to side 'snapping ' or quick jerking.  prety cool fottage though  ;D

Re: steadycam test

Yup! if you hold the pipe too tight, it will be harder to acomplish steady shots. Also, you want to keep your arm loose and sort of make it one unit along with the steady-cam... think of it as, if you are standing up in a bus or train while holding on for dear life while keeping a balance. (I'm from NYC) :P

Re: steadycam test

haha cool thanks for the responses

i also had the OIS turned on... i guess ill try it off next time

Re: steadycam test.

Re: steadycam test.

I built one of those last year except I used rigid PVC for underground sprinkler systems to take some of the weight off. It works ok in a pinch but you do need to practice with it to make the shots smooth.

The biggest problem with a rig like this though is if you are using it in front of clients. It has no sex appeal and looks home made, which for paying clients isn't cool. I ended up buying a magiqcam and all my problems have gone away... ;D
