I cant seem to find this post, someone listed a site for a FULL steady cam rig with vest, arm and sled for about $1650.00.  Does anyone remember this post?  Thanks if you can help.

Re: Steady Cam Rigs

Thats the one! Has anyone used this rig? Good? Bad? I'd love to hear from feedback about things.

Re: Steady Cam Rigs

I own one- I've been pleased with it, I can't comment on how it performs against other types however, because my only other experience was with a steadicam jr. - since the steadicam jr. is made of plastic and it snapped at the pivot point - I would say that the magiqcam beats it handsdown just by construction quality.

For me, the magiqcam gives me less than expected results when I'm moving slowly.

Yet, when I run or walk quickly, it performs much better than I expected. The secret to it might be in the tension settings in the arm though. It takes a long time to become a steadicam expert, but the magiqcam is easily the best constructed steadicam for the money.

Every time I've ever used it on a paying job - the clients are like "Wow". They figure it is a $10k system - and I don't tell them how much it actually cost. So, you could easily recoup the purchase price through charging extra for steadicam work.

One note - the creator of magiqcam is (or at least was) very behind in filling orders. I think I waited almost 2 months to get mine. This was a couple of years ago though...

JoeC:

Did you order it straight from France?  How did it work dealing with them as far as payment and shipping/taxes?  Or is there a U.S. distributor?

UPDATE:

Sorry JoeC; ignore me. For some reason I got them mixed up with:

My bad.

Re: Steady Cam Rigs

The magiqcam is made in the USA, not France. The guy who makes them is John Gardner - he lives in CA.

I saw another website with a French made one, so you might be getting these confused.

I bought one and it took about 2 months. I got the series 2. I kept in touch with John and he is a great guy and learned a great deal of his back ground. Great rig and easy setup. I recommend it very much.
