I have used it. It works very well. The Glidecam without the vest and the arm isn't worth to much. The HVX is 5.5lbs as I know. It means it is just perfect to the Smooth Shoother.Jeskid said:Have you used it - I wasn't a fan of the original glidecam. Does it work well?
evinsky said:Try the Merlin, it's supposed to be amazing for $800. As long as you can do without a vest/arm.
You won't be able to use any accesories though.

The Hollywood Lite does not. Is the Flyer $3,000-$4,000 superior? To me it was. That said, I'm sure you'd get 90% of the results you're looking for from a Glidecam or Hollywood Lite. I also tried the FigRig--that thing is AMAZING!!!

I bought the plans, built the "steadycam" and have been using my rig for over a year now.
It takes some time, but well worth it in the end. The whole thing cost under $500.
Cody's plans are awesome.
Holy crap!!! Don't knock it till you've tried it! I know it looks gay, but damn, it works! They bought one for the show I work on and put a DVX100 (our show now owns FOUR DVX100s!!!) in it. I was TRULY impressed!David G. Smith said:Damn, Shooter, you like that thing? I saw it on the DVD extras to Figgis' "Hotel" and really couldn't get into it. What camera did you use on it?
I wholeheartedly agree with Mikko! I bit the bullet and went for the best--which is the Steadicam Flyer. I also really lucked out and took advantage of an NAB show special. Anyway, here's some of the rationale . . .mikkowilson said:Having flown most all of the rigs mentioned so far in the thread, I woudl whole hartedly recomend the Flyer (which I currently operate) a pimpped DVX or HVX is the Perfect weight for the Flyer. It flies like a dream!
