Steadicam Workshop with Charles Papert in Sonoma, CA. - December 11th & 12th, 2009

Hey everyone! Join us in the beautiful wine country of Northern California for a two-day workshop with — yep, you read that right — Charles Papert!

Spots are limited and filling up quickly, so please read the details below and E-mail me ASAP if you are serious about participating.

Dates/Location:
The steadicam workshop will be held on December 11th and 12th, 2009 (Friday/Saturday) in Sonoma, California. Sonoma is located about an hour North of San Francisco, in the heart of the Northern California Wine Country. The venue location will be disclosed once you sign up, but what I can tell you is that it will be great for steadicam training.

# of Participants:
We're capping that maximum amount of participants in this workshop to 10, and if we have an incredible amount of interest, I'll certainly plan on holding another workshop in the bay area at some point in the near future.

Cost:
The cost of the workshop will be $620 per person. This will cover Charles' fee, the venue, and food/snacks during the workshop. Full payment is required to reserve your spot.

Equipment Required:
Steadicams and Cameras are not supplied, so I HIGHLY encourage participants to rent or bring their own rig for use during the workshop, as I cannot guarantee the availability of any personal equipment being available for use. Steadicam Pilot/Flyer rentals are reasonably priced, and will be totally worth it for the education you'll be receiving in this workshop. Steadicam-branded stabilizers are not required - Glidecam rigs are a perfectly acceptable alternative. Make sure your camera is within the weight range of the stabilizer's capacity!

Lodging and Transportation:
There are three or four hotels and lodges located in Sonoma Valley, and numerous other options in Napa and Petaluma, which are 20 and 30 minutes away, respectively. I'll be happy to provide you with recommendations if you can't decide where to stay.

San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) airports are located about an hour South of Sonoma, and are served by most major airlines, a few of which include Southwest, United, and Jet Blue. However, if you'd like to fly in a bit closer to Sonoma, consider Sonoma County Airport (STS) as a very convenient alternative. Situated about 35 minutes north of Sonoma in the town of Santa Rosa, Sonoma County Airport is served exclusively by Horizon Airlines (a division of Alaska Airlines.) Rental cars are available at all of the above airports, and Airporter service is also an option.

If you have any questions whatsoever, please contact me ASAP! If you'd like to book a spot in the workshop, please e-mail info@meeksdigitalstudios.com or call 707.328.8881. If you leave a message, PLEASE make sure to leave your first and last name, as well as a call back number.

I look forward to seeing you in the wine country!

$620 for a 2 day workshop with Charles Papert is a steal!

If it didn't cost me as much to fly down from Alaska, I'd so be there with my rigs.

Man, we'd love to have you Mikko! $505.10 is the lowest fare that I found you with Alaska/Horizon into KSTS. If your situation changes and you're able to swing a trip down, hit me up and see if we have any spots available.

Enjoy!

Meeks, wanna rent my rig?

AlaskaAir.com is the first thing I checked upon reading your first post.
Not completely outside the realm of possibility...

- Mikko

I'm counting on my Glidecam X-22 to be here by then... hopefully!!

Perhaps you'll be able to make it. Keep me posted :D

ok perfect thread to ask this question...
hvx200 which steadicam do i get?

No it's not, actually.

There are many other threads on this very topic. Or stat a new one.

This thread is about the workshop.

Unless you of course are planning on attending the workshop and are looking for a rig to bring?

- Mikko

Steev, if you're interested in buying a glidecam or steadicam and have never used one before, I HIGHLY recommend attending the workshop. The value of this workshop in particular is incredible - you won't get many chances to be taught steadi work by THE MASTER!

We still have spots available, and Sonoma isn't that far from Tracy! We'd be happy to have you come up. Let me know if you're interested.

Meeks,

Is this class you are organizing aimed more at the first time operator, or operators who've already had some time in the rig?

- Mikko

Mikko,

This class is geared more towards first time operators or those with less experience operating steadicam/glidecam rigs.

Steev, it looks like you deleted your post, but may I suggest that you do a google and/or IMDB search for Charles Papert - you'd see that he's quite accomplished, and definitely the Go-To guy in the industry when it comes to steadicam work. Believe me, $620 is well worth it for the education you'll get, and a good investment in your business. However, if you're more of the trial and error type, then I suppose you'll be fine without it.

If you're wanting to increase the production value of your work, not to mention learn some real skills of steadicam operation, you may want to consider a workshop.

Best of luck.

If you watch any TV or movies regularly, you've seen Charles' work. He is an A-list Hollywood operator.

And a great guy to boot. (Plus very active with the 'indie' online crowd too. He's been very active over at DVinfo.net over the years, and also has an account right here on DVXuser.)
