Steadicam Merlin

The Merlin is going to be $899.00. Cameras above 3 1/2 pounds will need the HeavyWeight kit for another $149.00.

It's 4-6 weeks away from availability right now.

That's way too expensive
I thought that as a replacement for the JR it would cost about the same, I know at least 3 people (not counting myself) who would buy this for 400$ but not for 900$
I already have the Glidecam 2000, the Merlin looks much better but I could just go for the new vest from glidecam for 1400 and take the weight off my hands
Steadicam/Tiffen should reconsider the price, this product can be sold to the home user market as well and not only professionals

So does anyone have a camera stabilizer that they like best? Steadicam jr, Varizoom Ultralite, Glidecam 4000, etc? Someone recommended the Varizoom Ultralite and I like the price plus they have the optional Vest (DV sportster) and it's cheaper than the Smooth Shooter. What's everyone's favorite other than the $60,000 steadicam haha.

I have a Steadytracker.
I cheaped out when I bought it.
My arm has never forgiven me.
Have tried every bracing device I could think of, with know success.
DVX just too heavy.
Unless you have arms like Popeye,---pass on this one.
If you're really tote-that-bale strong,---gimme a call.
Lets talk.
Have I got a camera stalilization device for you!

I think this is my favourite stabilizer:

... or would be if I had one - look at the price  . (€2090 = $2800 in a straight conversion). I know it's not the best you can get but I think that price has got to be unbeatable for a double articulated arm, plus the other refinements. Surely a Glidecam killer?

Does anyone know anything about l'aigle stabilizers in the real world? Anyone used one?

I agree, I just bought the Glidecam 4000, $ 900+$ 149 for for a handheld device and and $ 1400 for a complete vest for the Glidecam. You probably pay for the name Steadycam. :embarasse

But It look well done.

i use the steadytracker extreme for my dvx all the time.. and i have extra weights and a outboard monitor on it..

it will not work for everyone thats for sure...

That's just too expensive... sadly. Thought this Merlin was made with the consumer in mind. A consumer can't be willing to spend 900 USD????

I'm using GlideCam 2000, since I'm not using any heavy accessories there's no weight problem. I did add a quick release so I can take the camera off without having to take the whole thing apart (very poor design on that part)
It's not so easy to do the initial balance and you have to do it very often, Next time I buy something like this it's going to be at the company's store after testing it out thoroughly
(Good thing I'm going to be in NY and LA in september)
