I'm selling my beloved steadicam merlin. Its in very good shape and was very recently sent to steadicam (tiffen) for regular maintenance and received a brand new camera mounting plate. Weight capacity of the Merlin is right around 5lbs. Once I bought my pilot I hung on to the merlin for a little while but now I see that its just not getting any use and would like to find a good home for it to go to. The rig also comes with custom cut copper weight plates (I paid around $45 for them.) These weights can be mounted on the Merlin and are crucial for flying video cameras that weigh less than 5lbs and still achieving the most inertia and smoothest shot with the Merlin.
This was not a steadicam that was abused or handled by someone that doesn't know what they were doing.
In my opinion, all steadicam operators should learn on the Merlin as apposed to a bigger rig. It requires practice and very fine adjustments which will make you a much better and more precise operator once its time to upgrade to a full size rig (instead of giving it a death grip) That being said, once you've mastered the Merlin, you can achieve certain shots that are just as smooth as any other steadicam. I'll even show the buyer how to properly balance and fly it instead of relying and getting frustrated with the "cookbook" .
Thank you!
