steadicam merlin canon 7d which lens?

Hi guys Im planning on buying a steadicam merlin for my canon 7d, Im just wondering I have a canon 17mm-55mm 2.8 efs lens and a sigma 35 1.4 lens are these okay for the merlin or do I need to go wider 17-20mm lens 3.5 for better dof so I dont have to keep critical focus on an out of focus picture. Any advice would be great cheers

As far as critical focus goes, I'd try to stay between f5.6 and f8 if you can to give you a larger plane of sharp focus (less-shallow DOF) to work inside.
