[WTB] Steadicam Merlin Arm/Vest

I'm interested in purchasing a used Merlin arm and vest, either just the arm and vest setup or also with the Merlin.

I'm changing my mind actually, nolonger interested in the Merlin itself. However I would be greatly interested in ANY dual-jointed arm anybody has here that's under $1k.

If anybody has the Merlin arm for sale used, I may be able to push the budget above $1k, but I'm doing this as a hobby so price is a big factor.

Merlin itself is going around for 700 these days and thats used. With vest and arm used you are looking at 1500 almost:)
 
1500 for a used vest and arm alone? I thought they retail new for $1595? Or do you mean $1500 for Merlin + arm/vest used?

if u are doing it for hobby i wouldn't go that far. what camera will you be using?
 
Well hobby was perhaps not the right word. I've worked with big steadicams as an operator in my area for two bigger films, and about one month ago I started doing market research for breaking into the market with my own equipment as a way to earn extra money. I found that the most demand is for cameras in the prosumer range, at about 5-7 pounds. So I thought this'd be the best rig for the job, and from what I could tell it could pay for itself in my area within a few months.

Anybody here interested in selling the complete set, a Merlin with metal gimbal, arm, and vest, and maybe if anybody has a stand and bracket they'd like to bundle in, I'm all for it!

If you have used steadicam before than my suggestion would be to start with Merlin alone (unless you get a good deal) and if you find you need one, you can get it separately. I had glidecam 4000 pro and bought vest and arm and never once used it and sold it for $600 less. I was able to balance 5-7 pounds camera on it after a bit of practice really well.

Just a tip :)
 
Thanks for the advice I'm still in the market for a good deal on a Merlin arm/vest, just to plan for the future, but I'll hold off of buying one new.

As far as the Merlin alone goes, I may just buy it new, but if anybody has a used one in good condition with all the components (the case, dvd, etc) I'm open to that.

Hey there A.kolb! I recently got a Merlin arm/vest, so I have an extra arm/vest lying around now. It belonged to a cinecity stabilizer rig that had served me pretty well. Let me know if you're interested!
