Steadicam Jr question.

Re: Steadicam Jr question.

I'll take a look at my support arm and post some pix...I tightened the arm tension and that has really smooth out my shots...can you overtighten these springs...I wonder what happens to the shot when you do ?

Charles here is the shot of the support arm
http://www.moorefilms.com/spring.htm

The guys at glidecam had advised me to operate the support arm with a vary slight tilt of the arm from horizontal...with the full camera sled etc, that is about where the main beam of the arm is positioned.

Re: Steadicam Jr question.

All springs have their maximum amount of stretch capability. In your case you will have to ask Glidecam what the maximum spring stretch is.  I would not worry about it as the spring rate and max tension as already been accounted for.

This is or was the sweet spot per say for the arm to work at their best. this was also the same with the older steadicam models. This feature works because glidecam uses the same characteristic has the older steadicam models.
In short - slightly below the 90 degrees horizontal line.  8)

Taylor. I was looking at your arm and the bolt that adjust the spring tension. Here's something you can do. Remove the bolt and replace it with a insex bolt. You know, the one that has an allen type head. I think these are better, then you can use an allen tool instead of the sex sided tool you use to tighten up the springs.

Re: Steadicam Jr question.

Thanx Charles, I will look at changing the bolt. Was also thinking about having a bolt with a knob on the end instead of alwat adusting with a wrench or allen Key.

Hey i like you picture beside your name!!!

You mean like the basson system? Well, personally I won't do it because it makes the rig look cheap or very low budget(which it is). :-/
I guess it's a personal taste. ;)

Glad you like the pic. Cody made it for me. Pretty cool eh? ;D

Re: Steadicam Jr question.

NO Steadicam operator should ever have to worry about focus pulling, filters, frame rate, etc. That's what AC's are for. Steadicam operators should only worry about composition.
