Steadicam advice...

Hello all this is my first post here Ive really enjoyed reading your great forums.

So my question is this. I have a Sony PD170 and I'm looking to buy some type of a steadicam/ stabalizer system. Ive heard great things about the merlin but Im afriad my camera might be too heavy with a wirlerless pack attached, wide angle lense on and a NP-970 battery. Has anyone been through this situation before? or have any recomendations for me?

Persionally, I hate the merlin with a passion. Thats just me tho.

I'm throwing together a DIY one, specifically for two upcoming projects. I'll try and post it in the DIY section when its finished.
