I have a Steadicam available from my school but its meant for Panasonic 610 and 900 which is an eng camera. Is there an adapter i can get to use the hvx on that steadicam??? If not how uch is it to rent a steadicam for one day for my camera?

Yeah, the plate should fit the hvx also. But, depending on the model you may need to add a little weight to the hvx to help it fly a little easier.

All the answers in this thread are made with the assumption that you are referign to an adapter to mount the camera onto the Steadicam...

A Steadicam designed for a ENG camera will probabaly need some additional weight added to the camera to fly the HVX. Look into a "Practice cage" - a heavy metal cage around the camera used to add weight.

You will want to power your camera with it's normal batteries.

You can output the Composite signal from your HVX into the video input on the stage of the Steadicam.

I can give more details if you can tell us the model of the rig.

However, the operator or person who takes care of the rig should be trained in it's use and should help you out.
Operating any Steadicam takes practice. Flying a "big rig" without any traning is asking for a dangerous, and expensive, accident. Please make sure that you are assisted by a trained operator the first time you try on the rig, and allow LOTS (months) of time for practice before attemping to operate a shot.

For the SK you will need to add somewhere upwards of 5lb of extra weight to your HVX. Ideally somewhere around 8lbs.

If you have the "Low mode clamp" available, you can use that to mount some metal wieght plates to the handle.

Does the school have someone who is experienced in Steadicam operating? They should be able to help get you kitted out.

Yup. But the Dovetail plate is a standard compoent of the system. Unless it's been lost, it will be there.

The SK also shipped with an instructional video. Check with your school to see if you can borrow the video beforehand - it will answer a lot of your inital questions.

Hi Mikko,

Just curious what rig do you use? I did a short course on the Steadicam Flyer last weekend in Sydney and it was fantastic but it will be a long road to master it. Do you rate the Flyer?

Cheers Al.

Al,
Glad you enjoyed your Flyer workshop.

I own a Steadicam Archer and a Steadicam Merlin.

Not sure what you mean by "rate" ?

- Mikko

Yes I do rate the Flyer very highly. It's by far the best rig for any camera under 15lb.
And it's just as good with those lighter cameras as the bigger rigs are with the bigger cameras.
