Static Studio Set-up Question

Hey All:

I am setting up a studio in which two HVX200 Camcorders will be set up on remote controlled Pan/Tilt Heads hung from the ceiling to record speakers on a 20' x 30' stage. The controls and camera feeds will be sent to an adjoining studio room where a producer/camera operator will capture the feeds on a Mac Pro.

My question:

Can I set up a RAID array of Hard Drives that will allow me to capture both feeds from these two cameras directly? How do I do this? Via Firewire 800? Capture card? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Tim

okay, so you want to record from the 2 cameras live. There will be a video feed to a macpro. I'm not sure how you would capture 2 video streams live in final cut pro. I think you would need two computers. If you use the component out of the hvx, you would get uncompressed video and would need a capture card. AJA and Blackmagic Design have the best price/performance. Then you would probably need an e-sata raid for the throughput of uncompressed HD.Now, you could build your own raid, but I would suggest to purchase one from G-tech, Caldigit, Ciprico, Dulce, etc.(stay away from lacie stuff.) I do not no what the data rate is, but you could record to almost all codecs if your raid can sustain around 200-250 megabytes per second. Now the info about the capture cards and raids are the same whether or not you use one or two computers. Assuming your using final cut pro, I do not think there is a way to record 2 video streams simultaneously. Although, if there is a way, I guarantee someone will speak up soon enough.

Hope everything works out.
