State of Gimbals late 2018 (Gforces)

Rob - clearly you know the Movi Pro.

My intention I think my largest 'package' would be..

FS7, animon transmitter, ronin Focus motor, Fuji mk 18-50 zoom

Operators monitor (DP502)

Do you think that sounds practical??

Id like to minimise batteries (and mass) but could for example use a BP30 on the Fs7 or other options like that.
i have wads of bp30s, bp60s and also bp->dtap plates

THanks

S

I don't know too much about the MP but am regularly on shoots that use one with a blackmagic ursa mini. The set up uses a 7 inch monitor on the top part of the ring with an anton bauer battery. This powers the monitor and camera (repositioned battery also shortens camera for ease of balancing). The Movi Pro batteries power the gimbal. If balanced well, the batteries last a really long time. It seems like 2 batteries last a few hours. Really nailing the balance so the motors are doing much less is the key.

Along with the camera, the set up uses sigma 18-35/sigma 50-100, sometimes a BT misfit atom. Focussing done with a manfrotto LANC zoom/focus remote attached to the side part of the ring - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/816005-REG/Manfrotto_MVR901ECLA_RC_Clamp_LANC_Remote.html.

It's almost exclusively used with a ready rig/pro arms. Only handholding would be a pain IMO.

Thanks to some extent to your earlier post I may buy one tomorrow :)

I would want to keep it light
-batts power everything or a BP30 on my FS7.
Personally Ill probably build my own handles and keep the ring for rental to others.
I have my own style of operating and like the monitor forward and would probably fly it 'upside down'
My own style of operating is keeping the thing absolutely close to the body as I learned as a low grade steadica op
Dream would be to get a zcam e2

That is key with any gimbal, just because the motors can compensate doesn't mean it is a good plan to force them to compensate all the time. This applies all the way down to a phone gimbal, they must be balanced to get the best performance out of them.
