"Stars in California" GH2 w/ Sedna AQ1 and Canon 60D Music Video

Opinions....
5 minutes seems awful long for this song which seemed like it could have finised around the 2-3 minute mark
Straight cuts seemed very rough, especially when the artist started performing from location to another. (the use of some dissolves would help)
Also I think the cuts were two fast, as if you were trying to follow a beat, but just felt distracting. You have a 5 minute project, no need to rush it all in
Some shaky footage from the car and some bad moire shots I feel should be corrected.

Now what i did like was the location and angles. Great sense of space + cinematography. I loved the wide opening shot + the last closing shot with the sun setting. The colors in present popped and the muted ones for the concept matched well. I like the fact that there is a lot going on in the video, what I don't like is it seems some of the direction was off. I think just focusing on one main concept would have been better. Overall I would say good project, minus the opinions I have.

Also to berylium there are very creative "Rap videos", just because you might not see them doesn't mean they don't exist. For example here's a new Music Video by Lupe Fiasco which retains a concept and is different than what people may feel is the "only" rap music stereo type videos that exist

Thanks for your comments, J.F.R. I didn't actually edit this, but I'll keep those in mind for the next time.

Project looks great and my opinions were being very strict. I'm more than sure the artist and fans loved it. Great project, especially for what you worked with.

Really nice.... I know you didn't grade but that was equally excellent work. How much of each camera was used and were you the sole DP?

I appreciate anyone's input, and I like to glean whatever I can from them to make my own work better, so no worries!

OK, loved the song. And that last shot was great...
Loved the Southwest imagery. I think I have been to
most of those places.

My nitpicks:
1. The lip sync was good for the main performance at the Grand Canyon (BTW did you need a permit for that setup?)
Anyway - most of the other times he was singing in other locations the lip-sync was off most of the time.
2. A few handheld shots just seemed like grab n go jiggle shots that put me out of the song.
3. Exposure was blown out in some scenes that again just put me out of the mood.
Better to exposure properly and do an over blown exposure look in post.

I'm not quite sure what the percentage of shots are mine, but it feels like it's pretty even (a friend of mine set this trip up and wanted me to come along, plus he was using my Canon). I was on the GH2 the whole time with ND filters, so anything that looks sharper and without the high shutter speed look is the GH2. Also, the tilt lens was a Canon EOS, so anything with that would be the 60D.

I think the whole album is great, really. I shot a little "making of" doc last year for it and its one of those that, after I got my copy, I actually listened to it quite often.

So if you want to check out more, just iTunes or Amazon.

That's him playing karaoke with the iPhone 4, and I don't know if you need a permit, but we didn't get one (didn't have a very large setup). Frankly, I haven't noticed any lip syncing issues, and it's a possibility that it's from YouTube (haven't really watched the YouTube version closely).

Yeah, they are really quick, but the jello is there, so I'm curious why they were included.

I agree about exposure. I was the only one running with ND filters and keeping my shutter at 1/40. We were running very light, so I didn't have a monitor with me, but I did make extensive use of the "Highlight Rec" feature to see what was blown out and adjust accordingly. The 60D was running with only a polarizer, and, of course, has nothing built in to the camera to really properly gauge exposure.
