Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Ford looks old, but he looks like Solo. Really looks like Solo. I like it. :)

The reliance on CGI can still go either way for me (as with Mad Max). My gut reaction is I don't like it. But it is undeniably closer than what has come before. And in both cases I think if the story is remotely good and epic I'm not going to notice any of the things I should be quibbling about.

I didn't like it either. I don't think of Solo as an emotional guy, not to mention he should be home everywhere in that galaxy. A shot of him maneuvering the Falcon would have been awesome. And everytime Boyega is on the screen I think of Bubba in Forrest Gump. Come on, Billy Dee had so much more charisma even when he was halfway down in the Sarlacc's throat.

I don't think it's fair to judge his performance by a handful of silent shots of him in action. Rumours are he steals the movie.

Anyone doubting that JJ is doing as much practical effects as he can should check out this, the coolest thing shown at the Expo yesterday. Everyone thought this was a CGI creation. Amazing how they pulled it off.

That would have been beyond my wildest dreams back in the day. If I saw that when i was 12 my head would have exploded in 80 different directions!

I say that often about many things we have now. It's The Future. And it got here without us noticing.

Hold on a second!!
Where is my promised flying car, ray gun, anti-gravity device, robot maid, and everything else I saw on the Jetson's??!!
(Our computers, cell phones, unmanned drones, microwaves, electric cars, GPS units and those hundred other devices don't count.)

Yeah, "Metropolis"(1928) sure got it wrong for flying things...

I'll take two!

Seriously, though, seeing your images from Metropolis, I am embarrassed to say that I have never seen it. I am making a note to watch it tonight (before Game of Thrones). Rumor has it that James Whale said, "I want Frankenstein's Lab to look like the lab in Metropolis."

Boyega will be fine. Have you seen Attack the Block? That kid oozes presence on screen.

So I watched it (METROPOLIS). (Not to hi-jack this thread - just a quick note): It was fantastic to see the beginnings of what could be done with the camera (movement, composites, miniatures...amazing); the story and acting are for another era so I can't comment on that. But I enjoyed it very much...I should have watched it much sooner!

If Episode 7 disappoints, it seems like Battlefront will indeed deliver the original trilogy experience we all dreamed about.

Here is to hoping that both are amazing.
