Star Wars: The Force Awakens

People who were bagging on the Jurassic World trailer kept saying "Star Wars is going to be all real models." So much for that.

Never believed that for a second and I don't think anyone connected with the actual production said it. They only said it would rely on real locations and it looks promising in that regard so far. I heard they planned on filming in 35mm anamorphic but the footage doesn't look like it to me. The opening shot actually looked more digital. I love the shot of the guy in the woods. That looks more realistic and full of drama and atmosphere than anything in the prequels.

I never believed it, either. Me, I'm excited about JW -- not a whole lot to go on here yet. Seems to be a lot of atmospheric combat, which is something new. We'll see what longer trailers bring.

I'm in the I wish the CGI looked better camp regarding JW. I mean it's been 20 years and the improvement is miniscule. Looks kind of like a re-hash too. Not really sold to be honest. I liked the shark gag.

Apparently that was placeholder stuff made for the trailer, or at least some of it was, like the panaromic shots of the gate, etc. But I don't think it looked worse than some of the stuff in the SW trailer.

The CGI in the Star Wars trailer didn't stick out to me. The JW CGI did but creatures have a higher standard of realism to live up to. To me they don't look any better than anything in the first JP.

Really? I thought the Millennium Falcon stuff did. The X-wings, too, but not as much.

I agree with Frank; the stuff in the original JP still looks pretty good. Way better than stuff in many current movies, including the Hobbit Trilogy.

And way less lens flares, than I suspected.

Let's say, the CGI of the original JP still holds up very well.

I wasn't bagging on the JP CGI, I just still can't understand why the science hasn't progressed that much in 20 plus years. CGI has improved in complexity but not that much in the realism department despite the quantum leaps in processing power since then.

I think the walls of the uncanny valley are simply steeper and harder to climb out of than people think.

I thnk the same applies here. The first 90% is there already, but that last 90% is really hard!

I'm in. I think this looks good. I love the fake trailer. I hope the movie does have that feel.

That's because there is so much more to realism in CGI than processing power and complexity.

The trailer got me all geeked out for the entire day. I don't think the CG stands out as much. The shot of the X-Wings looks great, and has plenty of filmic softness, haze, some CA, etc. Everything looks great IMO. A tad more softness and camera shake (minor) probably would've sold the Falcon shot even more. Can't wait for next year...so far away. :(

I'm with Barry. Just hit me right where is was supposed to, a few tears of joyful anticipation as I watched it a second time.

I'm not for hyperanalyzing these films. They're different than everything else for me in that sense, even the cruddy ones. I honestly can't wait for this one.

From the beginning to the end it look like a SW fan film to me. I kinda expected Ryan Wieber to pop up. And though I don't like at all the Jar-Jar film I have to admit that the double blade light sabre was awesome. This new sword thing is lame.
