Star Trek

From the costumes to the content, there's this undercurrent of sexual tension in a lot of the episodes, and the new trek's feel so neutered in comparison. Not that the new ones are completely devoid of sex, but the vibe is just different.
I can agree, yet disagree. Because of the free love atmosphere of the late 60's, networks and producers were always pushing the boundaries... and the censor was always right there pushing back. Enterprise though, had Topal. The time she and the doctor were stuck in quarantine, and she was in heat? Or the time she and Trip were stuck in Quarantine, and they had to rub the cream on each other?

I don't know about you, but quarantine sounds like the place to be ;)

Fun factlet: Kirk and Uhura's smooch in "Plato's Stepchildren" was the first on-screen inter-racial kiss on American tv...

Even funner factlet: if you look closely, they don't actually kiss. :) They shot it both ways, but had to go with the simulated-kiss version to try and satisfy the Southern affiliates (who went ahead and refused to broadcast the episode anyway).

Yes, I am a Trekkie. You may shoot me now. :D

Set phasers to mutilate...

This is my favorite souvenir from time spent on Trek...

From the Enterprise-B bridge set, Star Trek: Generations. Doug Drexler created the line art, I gelled it, and post-photography had a friend build a lightbox, to hang on my living room wall.

Who's a trekkie, now?!

:cheesy:

One of these days I'll get around to writing a book I have sketched out on this, but this is likely another series of missteps just like Enterprise....a nostalgia society is not one we are in...(maybe it was in the 90s..maybe). With the climate of global affairs sci-fi that looks back to happy old days (albeit it with action) doesn't cut it. That's one reason Enterprise failed. They really should consider having JMS revive the franchise.

The Excelsior class was the best in my opinion. If you are a true Trekkie, you'll also know the name of it's captain, right?

Captain Stiles, wonderfully played by James B. Sikking.

Bridge, how can you have a Red Alert, in space dock?

Or are we talking about Captain Harriman, from Generations...?

John Harrington is the Captain of 1701 B. Captain Stiles that you mention, was the Captain of the NX 2001 (The Prototype designation), later named Excelsior. But, do you know who eventually ended up as that ones Captain? Hikaru Sulu.

You name your son James Tiberius, you ought to know a little Trek Trivia ;)

Incidently- There was a huge movement to bring Trek back to TV , and it was suggested that Sulu and the Excelsior would be it.

I hope I didn't come off like an a-hole about it...I didn't mean to...

...all trekkies are equal in worth and dignity, yes, my Spock-brother?

You know there will be a huge group or 'tards that think the name of the movie will be “UNDER CONSTRUCTION” “CHRISTMAS 2008”

These will be the same people that thought Cloverfield's release date was it's title.

On a positive note: this actually sounds like it might be an interesting movie now.
