"Star Trek: The Beginning" Fan Trailer

Hey guys. Sometime last year I was excited after watching the teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, and started to create a trailer for fun along the lines of "What if I was in charge of rebooting Star Trek?" So to that end, using my knowledge of filmmaking and CGI, I set off to create a teaser trailer based off that concept. This includes a differently designed Enterprise, drydock, and shuttlecraft. Specifically, the two shots of the crew men going up the elevator, and on the walkway, were shot on the HV 20 against greenscreen. So without further ado, I present the fan teaser trailer for "Star Trek: The Beginning"...

Also for those interested in how the visual effects were done, I posted a little write up on my blog...

Awesome job!

I was at first surprised how amazing the CG and animation are, but then I noticed that you're Pixel Magic from the TFN film films boards, and the Wow went down a bit, but it's still amazing though. Even for one of the sfx guys from tfn forums. It looks professional, you really should do this for a living.

Also just judging it as a film, very cool. Has the "teaser" feel to it, and gets you excited. The editing is well paced and the shot of the two guys in the elevator work seamlessly (although I can tell it was shot by the HV 20). Music works well as does the dialogue.

The one thing that stood out for me was the anamorphic lens flares. I'm not saying it bothers me, I like the look and JJ abrams uses it extensively (far more than you have), but the ones you have just feel a tad too fake. Especially the ones behind the titles. They look more like dynamic lines rather than flares. They need to be more of a glow, and they need to spill more.

Also this is just nit picking and not needed, but I feel as though the lights outside the elevator as it was moving up would have affected the lighting on the men inside. Yes the lights aren't very bright, but it did feel a tad wierd to me. Maybe it's just me. But it's just nitpicking.

Good job!

Excellent job (even though my computer had a hard time playing back... I'll try it on my main computer tonight)! I can't say much until I get a chance to watch it play back smoothly, but I'm really impressed with what I could see. You are good!
