Star Trek HeeHee

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
Starting at Paramount on Monday (after an original planned start date back in May, having done two other projects in between...)

It will be nice to be back a-Trekking. Maybe we can make this one look better than the last.

Are you in charge of adding the lens flares? Because the last one didn't have enough. Don't slack this time.

Are you saying the last Star Trek film was bad?
I really quite liked it myself.
Was more watchable for the general audience too IMO

dude tell JJ to use a freaking matte box, way too many lens flares in the last one, pfft what a rookie

i loved Star Trek

I wasn't a fan of the art direction - I thought the new bridge and companionway designs were nice, but the gigantic brewery/basement engineering business was an f'ing embarrassment. Not to mention the villain's ship, which for some reason was -all- basement. Leaky basement. Leaky, poorly-lit, weirdly-huge basement. Hopefully this one will be less about the basements. We'll see.

Ahh I see. Well I actually appreciated the basement-esque art design.
It told me that these were the business ends of the ship, where things got done and where the walls aren't always white.
It reminded me of how real submarines/battleships were made to so its founded in some truth.

Hope you have a blast and I'll be looking forward to you're rendition!

Having just spent a good deal of time crawling around destroyers and battleships and an aircraft carrier for an upcoming feature project, I have to say that, no, the locations they used in the last 'Trek' look more like a brewery because, well, they shot in an un-dressed brewery. There's also the question as to why the bridge of a ship would look like the 23rd-century technology it's supposed to be, while the rest of the ship is trying to look like a 20th-century beer-making plant.

But in the end the important thing is that the look works, and if it worked for you (as it did for a lot of people) that's all good. It distracted me so badly as to pull me right out of the film, but that's just me.

Maybe in the future they had all these indie brewery places pop up, like the 5BuschMk2 and the tBudi but it just didn't have the feel of the old school breweries. They had problems with "Rolling Hops" and "Barliasing" so they went back to the old school. They were the purists.

I figured they were building upon Yahoo Serious/"Young Einstein's" discovery of the immense power locked within the simple Beer Atom, and that in fact the warp drives etc are powered by a new class of fundamental particles (Beerions) requiring the carriage of a self-contained brewery aboard, in order to keep the engines fueled.

Add 10 points to your Nerd Cred for the Yahoo Serious reference...As someone who just recently completed watching every single episode of Star Trek, the original series on blu-ray, I salute you. Let's hope they stay away from time travel, and the head slappingly dumb coincidences that littered the first film.

I don't know. If working on a Star Trek film doesn't max out one's Nerd Cred, I can't imagine what would.

I have a big box of lens flares in my garage that I have been saving for just such a project.

More flares?

Oh... lens flares... nevermind...

As far as the brewery decks- weren't the Impulse Engines from the TV show actually giant kegs, spewing CO2 and hops in a propulsive stream?:beer::beer:
Chief Engineer/Brewmaster, "Captain, I'm givin' ya all the suds I got..."

Hmmm.... then again, maybe a foreign ship should look like a keg on the outside????

Drunk Warp? Maybe it could be a new technobabble term for faster-than-light travel in sci-fi novels and films.

As for the lens flares, I think we need a new job title for film sets, the lens flareist. His or her job would be to shine all kinds of lights into the lens. Just be careful when Christian Bale is shooting a scene and you're all good.
