Standard Def HVX Student Film

Hi guys!

Well ive got an HVX but shot in standard def (mostly cos im waiting to get the cineporter) which is fine for summer.

I have made a wee video montage/trailer for a film im working on, and will post more info on it here. I'm a bit of an amatuer compared to you guys, but hope you might still enjoy it, it is a micro-budget film.

You can also see a scene from it (with rubbish sound which you'll need to put up- the whole film was made with the intention of ADR and this just hasnt got done yet with this clip) but anyway.

If you watch them I thank you for your attention :)

My intial reaction is - microbudget student film? Amateur compared to most?
I wonder if I am watching the right trailer. What I saw looks very professional,
and far from microbudget. Nice job!

thats kind to say but really it is, the stuff guys post here normally is amazing, but i will be posting more stuff! Im trying to learn some 3d effects to import into some of the action scenes (and im redoing the fx on it as it was a bit tacky some of it.)

Basically the film is about a woman with a doomed relationship with a resistance fighter set during the Hungarian Uprising.

It's a romantic tragedy and its has a few twists (and er it cost $400) which is ONLY cos all my money vanished horriifally - though this film was made for an assignment. Apolagies for the poor image quality!

I'd say the same... INCREDIBLE look.. backgrounds and all of that. Looks stunning with such a nice edge and style at the beginning. It does seem a bit disjointed though in that some elements don't look right. Your leading man looks too contemporary and modern in looks.. hair style and all that. The phsycial shoving and pushing doesn't look right and some of the staging looks a bit off..

This though is just so clear to see as the rest is STUNNING. Really is, but these other elements draw you away..

Could you discuss your workflow and what you did to create the exteriors... AWESOME stuff.. and again the other points are just my .02

Okay guys its been a wee while (i had to do some uni assessments boo) so for quite a few weeks the film was delayed (a 20 min short) and um um I am regrading the whole film and rediting too. - I had to shoot more scenes for it to make sense lol.

So then my friends here are some new stills - its still microbudget, im still an uber noob but i love the hvx and the aesthetic it helps me to create.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to the question regarding workflow - again simple just tapes + SE66 mic and edited in premiere 2.0 with magic bullet.

Oh and just for fun here are some noir versions (i made these for a laugh but u can tell the light from the window - in the corners anyway) is an incomplete effect :)

More pics featuring some very modest gun hit effect (some bloody smoke pops outs the chaps head when he's killed) still framed it might look cheesy but trust me when it moves its pretty neat!

Hope you like!

So i decided to spam my thread again like some er spamming man.
However - It is almsot 2am and ive been working on this effects shot.
Now this shot looks so much better moving - you have to imagine the smoke coming out the stacks - and also a greyish smog drifting over the actors (which is why there lighter and less cotrasted in pic - and more so in pic 2 with the foreground smog blowing over :)
Its a scene opener i hope! And look Indiana the CG car makes its return hehe

Dude if your an uber noob I'm going to be out of a job soon...

Jesus this project looks great!

Did you shoot stock HVX or did you use an adapter?

-Rock-Adam

Well I just shot this on the stock lens and in standard def - Im saving up for my hd solution (and just waiting for the cineporter yey)

I hope to get an adapter till then im just narrowing my dof in the closeups (and effects shots) using the ol' tricks.

Well the pics hopefully look good but im just concerned how the film will fit in lol, its had a lot of rewrites and so i am noobish (despite some pics)

Looking back tho at the backgrounds i figured they were too contrasted so ive made a wee improvement.

Okay more pics at work.
Again there is a subtle comic book style which i think will really work for this film and its manner of performance. Again its more matte shots - the whole film isnt mattes or anything lol tho - promise.

trailer looks nice. nice images, good production value.

try lowering the opacity/transparency on the muzzle flashes, so yu can see through them more. it well help them look more real (i've been doing fake muzzles flashes for a while now). try around 70%, max.

Replace the car in the background, the photo you used has too much perspective distortion because it was shot with a wide lens from close up.

other than that, looks great.

Thanx guys for the comments, i'll post more pics soon - and PAPA don't retire your camera now eek what do u mean? lol

Thanx Janusz the production value is embarassing - im not boasting aaalllll this was done on 5cents - im critisicing myself - i totally screwed it up, and while its okay a student film, i still screwed up my producing on this one. So sure I hope the look - makes it look better than it was. The film will be posted here to view when it's done.

Yep Arson which pic is that your talking about regarding the car? I posted an earlier one higher up (which i think looks terrible) so ive replaced the car on that? You reckon i should for the 2nd pic too though or?

Yep the trailer is of course now totally out of date (and to be honest it doesnt really tell u much of the story really) its just a kind of montage.

Anyway my friends, i shall keep beavering away and post more pix!

Wow, this looks hot, what did you use for CG? Can't wait to see the finished product. BTW this looks alot better than most of the stuff posted on this site so don't be shy, but also don't let your head grow either.
